Temples and god is for every one and they are not to be discriminated against by any standard, But there are a few temples that do not allow men into their premises.

Although they are few in number, they do exist on the whole. Let us read about them to know why men are not allowed insided these temples.

Surprisingly only female pundits or archaks are allowed to do the puja to the god here. So why this discrimination in the male dominated society?

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. This temple in Kerala celebrates its nation wide popular festival namely Attukkal pongala that is primarily a women dominated festival. This festival goes on for ten days inbetween February and March.

Here only women devotees assemble to watch the ritualistic proceedings and to attend the festival. A Guinness world record has been set by these liberated devout women. It sounds interesting to say the least.

Lord Brahma Temple In Rajasthan: This is also a rare temple that is dedicated to Brahma. It is even rarer to see only women dominating all aspects of the rituals.

Men are not allowed here due to a curse by Saraswati Devi who did not want married men to enter the premises of her temple. It is a cursed temple, cursed by its own deity. Anyway, men do not enter here.

Mata Temple At Muzaffarnagar; This temple is known to menstruate occasionally during which even the male priests are not allowed to enter. At this time the temple management allows only women who do the puja at that time.

Devi Kanyakumari: This famous south Indian temple restricts men from entering its quadrangle with permission extended to just celibate men to proceed beyond the gate and married men are not permitted here.

This is one of the temples where goddess wants only unmarried people to view the rituals like aarti puja.Usually married men are heavily burdened with the worldly thoughts and responsibilities which prevent them from focussing on God and his leelas to the fullest.

Kamakhya Temple Of Assam: This also comes under the same category. Although men are generally allowed, during certain times of the year, they are prohibited from entering.

This is actually a Shakti Peeth that is closed for men when the deity is having her menstrual time. Only priestesses or male sanyasis are allowed to do the puja during these occasions.

These females dominated temples, though are rare to come across, this surely feels like a journey begun towards emancipation from years of yore.

At the same time, it respects women and hold them in high regard. We can see a natural reaction to a natural process of menstruation which is in resonance with the current practices and beliefs.
