Ram Navami 2023: What Are The Dos And Donts To Be Observed For This Day?

The last day of Chaitra Navaratri is actually dedicated to Lord Shri Ram and it is referred to as Ram Navami. As Lord Rama incarnated on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month on the Pushya nakshatra on a Poornima day, devotees of Lord Ram, usually make preparations many days before the event. The very mention of Lord Ram, takes the devotees to a trance as they are reminded of his infinite virtues. Others get thrilled at the magnanimous personality of Lord Shri Ram. This is a very special day for any devout Hindu and let us know what activities are prescribed for Ram Navami and what activities are proscribed.
Things To Do
1. Rama Idol is placed in a swing in many areas.
2. Observing a fast will bestow you happiness, prosperity and destroys sins.
3. Soon after you get up, offer Arghya to God.
4. Taking a holy dip in the Saryu river of Ayodhya cleanses your sins of past and present janmas.
5. Ramcharit manas, ram chalisa and Sri Rama Raksha Stotra should be recited as a threesome.
6. Ram keertans, bhajans, and stotras are recited on this day.
7. The greater your devotion greater will be the results accrued.
8. Chant Hanuman Chalisa and donate within your budget to needy people and the poor..
9. Since Lord Ram was born during the midday, this time is most propitious to perform Rama Navami Puja. Archanas and specific pujas can be performed on this day. All this should be followed by Nama chant and mantras and hymn recitation simultaneously.
10. Light an Akhand Diya on all nine days till the day of Dashami tithi..if you find it inconvenient, then light diyas morning and evening daily till the completion of the festival,
11. Consume lots of water while fasting as it is crucial to be hydrated throughout. Have sips of lemon water, tender coconut, buttermilk and green tea as options.
12. In case you are working somewhere, pop in some walnuts and almonds to quench your appetite. You could also consider a protein smoothie or any smoothie that is light on calories and on your stomach.
13. Make it a point not to cheat or deceive any one today..
Things To Avoid
1. Avoid tamasic foods, non-vegetarian foods and alcohol.
2. You can consume curries without onions and garlic added in the preparation.
3. Navratri is the time you should not get a haircut and shaving also is prohibited during this festival.
4. Try to follow ideals of Rama for at least nine days, Do not criticize others, or talk ill about others. Do not hurt others by word, thought or deed. Show kindness and generosity towards the suffering humans. Do not cheat on your partner and reciprocate love with love. Do not backstab at any point in time. There are many in the list. Let us just follow some. All this amounts to living a sattvic lifestyle.
