Kalagram, A Cultural Haven : The Highlight Of Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 In Prayagraj
As Prayagraj transforms into a spiritual and cultural hub during the Mahakumbh 2025, a remarkable attraction has taken centre stage - Kalagram, a 10-acre cultural haven that pays homage to India's rich heritage. Inaugurated on 12th January 2025 by Union Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Kalagram turns out to be a living, breathing celebration of the country's artistic, culinary, and historical treasures.
A Grand Entrance To India's Sacred Stories
Visitors to Kalagram are greeted by a spectacular entrance spanning 635 feet in width and rising 54 feet tall. This majestic gateway, adorned with depictions of the 12 Jyotirlingas and the story of Lord Shiva consuming Halahal, sets the tone for an immersive cultural experience. The entry point is an ode to India's sacred mythology.
Beyond the entrance lies seven Sanskriti Aangans, each a cultural zone dedicated to a different region of India. These zones reflect the architectural essence of iconic temples and feature the work of 230 master artisans, showcasing traditional crafts like Bengal's intricate Pattachitra, Assam's bamboo artistry, and Madhya Pradesh's tribal art. Each corner of Kalagram bursts with creativity, making it a vibrant tribute to India's artistic diversity.
Cultural Synergy In Every Corner
What sets Kalagram apart is its dynamic atmosphere. Over 15,000 cultural artists bring the space to life daily through mesmerising performances organised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi and Zonal Cultural Centres. Visitors are treated to classical music, folk dances, and riveting theatrical shows curated by the National School of Drama.
A standout feature is the Anubhuti Mandapam, which employs cutting-edge 360-degree visuals to narrate the celestial descent of the Ganga. This immersive experience transcends mere storytelling, leaving visitors spellbound and offering a deeper connection to India's spiritual heritage.
A Dive Into History And Flavours
Kalagram also provides an insightful journey through India's history with the Aviral Shashvat Kumbh Zone, curated in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India and the National Archives. This zone delves into the Kumbh Mela's origins, highlighting its UNESCO-recognised Intangible Cultural Heritage status through a mix of artefacts and digital presentations.
For food enthusiasts, the Satvik Flavours of India zone is a culinary paradise. From Prayagraj's traditional fare to delicacies from across the nation, this area offers a taste of India's diverse regional cuisines, honouring its rich culinary heritage.
Adding to the excitement, visitors can participate in interactive activities such as a photography contest by the Lalit Kala Akademi, documentaries by IGNCA, and Astro Nights that invite stargazers to explore the cosmos.
Kalagram offers you an invitation to experience the essence of India. From its awe-inspiring entrance to its cultural zones, performances, and interactive exhibits, it brings to you a multi-dimensional exploration of the nation's artistic soul. It isn't merely a place to see, it's a journey to feel. Step into its vibrant world, and let India's rich heritage awaken your senses.
