Dhanteras 2023: Should You Cut Hair And Nail On Dhanatrayodashi?
Dhanteras 2023: This day is also known as 'Dhanatrayodashi' and is a very prominent festival in Hinduism that is associated with wealth and prosperity and people buy gold on this day. It is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin or Kartika.
This year Dhanteras will be celebrated on Friday, 10 November 2023. People buy gold, silver, vehicles, utensils, brooms, and other household items as they are said to bring blessings, prosperity, and good fortune to the family.

While celebrating this festival, it is very important to keep a few things in mind, instead of profit, there will be a loss. Since it is a festival that is celebrated keeping in mind the religious customs, it is important for you to know what to do and what not to do on this day.
Diwali starts with Dhanteras, which is celebrated two days earlier than the festival of light. On the day of Dhanteras, people go shopping which increases wealth and prosperity in the house. Therefore, there are some things, which should not be done at all on this day. One of these is getting a haircut on the day of Dhanteras. There is a belief that cutting hair on the day of Dhanteras angers Goddess Lakshmi.
According to religious texts, getting a haircut on any auspicious day is not considered good. Different meanings are associated with shaving or cutting hair, but in most cases cutting hair is not considered auspicious. This is mentioned in the Anushasana Parva of Mahabharata. According to this, cutting hair on an auspicious day leads to loss of wealth, intelligence, and knowledge. Therefore, one should not cut their hair on the day of Dhanteras.
Get a haircut in advance so that you do not have to do it on Dhanteras. Worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha with all your heart so that there is happiness and prosperity in the house. Apart from this, also engage in charitable works and do not return any beggar coming to your home empty-handed on this day.
