Yamunotri, apart from being a holy place, doubles up as a picnic spot that can keep you absorbed in the beauty of the landscape for several hours. The forever pleasant weather and varieties of birds that visit you there just add thrill to your routine-bored life. Known as the best picnic site in Dehradun, it also kindles the religious interest in you as a traveller at the same time.

Sahastradhara, Dehradun

One of the places that evoke serious interest in you is the Sahastradhara, which is a therapeutic water spring knows for its curative properties. The weather breathes calm and serenity while aesthetically it captures your heart in an instant. It is on the way to Yamunotri.

Robber's Cave, Dehradun

Otherwise known as Guchhupani, Robber's Cave was a robber's hideout in ancient times. The cave has a cold-water spring that flows throught it, disappears at one spot and reappears at another spot. The cave inside is dotted with several waterfalls that flow at few areas of this cave.

Kempty Falls, Mussoorie

Mussoorie is on the route to Yamunotri, and the Kempty falls there always attracts crowds. Known to be the best spot in Mussoorie, it is a place where you are tempted to refresh your senses under the chilled waters of this waterfall. You can also indulge in some boating at Mussoorie which is nearby.

Lake Barkot

Barkot is a small hill station which is also on the route to Yamunotri and welcomes travellers for a stopover during the Char Dham yatra. If you wished to have a detailed look at the Bandar Poonch, of Garhwal portions of Himalayas, there is no better place than this. An age old Shiva temple attracts tourists to its fold in Barkot.

Hanuman Chatti

Hanuman Chatti offers the best base camp for three trekking trips, Yamunotri, Dodi Tal and Darwa Top. Hanuman Chatti is enclosed by Himalayan snow dripping peaks on one side and the confluence of Yamuna and Hanuman Ganga on the other. There is a small Hanuman temple at Hanuman Chatti which is visited by all tourists who stop here to visit the Chatti. You can reach Janaki Hatti by engaging a Taxi or a Jeep from hanuman chatti after reaching which, a real hard climb of 6 kilometers starts towards Yamunotri.

Janki Chatti

You can travel by vehicle upto the point at Janki Chatti and from here, you start your climb towards Yamunotri. Dotted with hot water springs, it is the ideal place to relieve the yatri of his fatigue and exhaustion. Youngsters can walk the distance whereas for those infirm and weak, ponies and palanquins can be availed to journey further on a rental basis.

The most enchanting aspects of mother nature are seen together combined in charming proportions, the Mountains, the rivulets, the waterfalls and forests and this completes the picture of heavens that descended on earth. Panoramic vistas of snow-covered mountains, sparkling rivulets, spurting waterfalls and dense forests that are offered during the climb to Yamunotri fills your hearts with serenity and peace.

Kharsali

Just one kilometer away from the Janaki Chatti, the small town of Karsali with its Oldest Shani dev temple beckons you. Devotees do not proceed to yamunotri unless they have offered their prayers at Shani Bhagawan temple. When winters onsets and as a result the temple of Yamunotri closes, the idol of Yamuna from the temple is brought out and placed here at this temple and worshipped for 6 months till the time of reopening of Yamunotri.
