Bijli Mahadev Temple At Himachal: Know About The Miracle That Happens Here Once In 12 years
An ancient Lord Shiva temple found in the mighty Himachal ranges, is deemed as most sacred amongst the pilgrimage centres. Bijli Mahadev temple is an experience that offers you a spiritual uplift. We shall find out why.

Lord Shiva is still being worshipped in this temple with due methodical procedures. Found near the Parvati-Beas confluence, this temple is known as Bijli Mahadev temple for the right reasons. We shall find out why.
Bijli Mahadev temple has a historical background.
A demon named Kulantak wanted to seal the valley by stopping the river Beas from flowing there. He appeared there in the form of a dragon and decided to kill every living being and tried submerging the land under water.
This was noticed by Lord Shiva who rushed forward to the place. Facing the demon, he asked him to check if his tail had caught fire. Once the demon turned back Lord Shiva slit his body using his trishul and killed him. The dead demon's body turned into a mountain and Bijli Mahadev temple was built over it.
This story did not end at this. Lord Shiva even approached Lord Indra and ask him to strike the mountainous terrain with lightening every 12 years. There is a lightening that strikes this area every 12 years and Lord Shiva wanted to change its course so that it falls on the Shiv ling itself, inside the temple.
Lord Shiva takes the bolt of lightning upon himself even today. Once the bolt strikes the Shiv ling, the linga breaks into pieces and applying salted butter and sattu, the linga gets back its original shape in a few days. This mystery is still unravelled and not solved.
There is a wide area to trek here, which is also named after Bijli Mahadev. This temple is located 2454 metres above the sea level. The temple is about 20 kilometers from Kullu and you can trek a distance of 3 kilometers to reach it. While trekking you get to see one of the loveliest panorama of the place that keeps you enthralled for a life time.
Visit it during summers as the valley offers not only comfort but an unusually beautiful natural scenery that gives the effect of the milky way. Winter is also okay to plan your visit here as there is snow scattered in beautiful designs to accompany you throughout your trek upwards to the temple.
Festivals happening here, are visual delights and spiritual experiences to remember. During winters, you have snow skating river rafting and trekking to indulge in here.
It is rightfully called the valley of Gods as the radiance and beauty of this place keeps you glued to the views. It feels like Switzerland and Kullu offers this experience to the fullest.
Locals believe that Lord Shiva, in order to protect them from evil forces around, receives the bolt of lightning every once in 12 years.
