Most of you must be familiar with Mira Nair's successful film Monsoon Wedding. This romantic movie brought the concept of monsoon weddings to the entire world. This movie aptly shows the traditions of Hindu and Indian weddings held during the romantic monsoon season.
The beginning of the custom of monsoon wedding is unknown! The two-week long ritual of monsoon weddings is pre decided with collaboration of an astrology specialists. The monsoon wedding begins as the Indian groom marches to the wedding chapel with his family, friends and relatives. The bride's family also will be all ready to receive them after a festive occasion of mehendi and music evening.
The bride and groom will be well decorated by their families. In a monsoon wedding, the groom wears the traditional Jodhpurs, a silk brocade suit, sword and turban. Traditional Indian brides wear pink and red saris and adorn themselves extravagantly with as much jewelry as possible. As the rituals of monsoon wedding commence, not an hour passes without offering poojas to the deities. Monsoon wedding is defined as the marriage of two families in the eyes of the Hindu Gods.
Monsoon wedding is accompanied by distribution of sweets, eggs, and money, which symbolize a sweet life, fertility, and prosperity. After the ceremony, the families and friends meet for a fancy dinner.
Monsoon weddings are performed mainly in North India. Though not so popular as in India, it is performed in some parts of Southeast Asia also. Now, get ready for a monsoon wedding as the romantic showers pour in.
