Love At First Sight: Real Or Fake?

By Super

What is the definition of love? Would it be wrong to say that each one of us has a different definition to it? Love carries different meanings for everyone and it depends a lot upon what we experience. One thing is for sure – it does take us to cloud nine. The sky becomes bluer, the grass is greener, the winds rustle and whisper in the ears, the raindrops hit a musical note and happiness showers in from all directions. And all this happens in that fraction of a second when you realise you are in love, that very first moment the emotion hits you.

How Too Much Of Love Can Turn A Relationship Sour

But do all of these happen at the first sight you lay on someone? Is love at first sight real or fake? It is difficult to say that love happens at the first glance you lay on someone. The first time we see someone and develop a feeling it is more close to attraction. We are first attracted towards the look of the person. Love is something that goes beyond looks. Simply by looking at someone and saying we are in love with that person would be a far-fetched idea.

It takes a lot to know a person and realise whether we are ready to spend the rest of our lives with that one person or not. Deciding to do so at the first sight would carry many doubts for the future. There are many plus and minuses related to this first sight love.

Before we look into the pros of love at first sight let us take a look at some of the arguments against it which question whether love at sight is real or fake.

Infatuation

Infatuation: The first time we look at someone it is only the appearance that strikes us. We are drawn towards the look of the person and know nothing about the personality. Falling for looks is more like getting attracted and infatuated. Love does not happen so easily. It takes a lot more for the feeling of love to develop.

Need not be mutual: You may look at someone and get attracted. You might want to be in a relationship with that person but are you sure there is a similar feeling on the other end as well? Your feeling can hold meaning only if you know that it is mutual.

You know nothing about the person

You know nothing about the person: How much do you know about this person you are in ‘love’ with? Practically nothing. In such circumstances how can you say that you love that person? You need to know the person – the positives as well as the negatives – to love.

Short lived relationship: You meet someone and get married! How long is that relationship going to last? After you get married you start discovering each other. There may be things you like about one another while there may be things you do not like. You need to know one another before entering into a committed relationship.

Against all these negative arguments

Against all these negative arguments for love at first sight is only one argument that happens to go in favor of it. You see each other, get attracted, developed love and decide to be partners for life. And all this happens in the first few minutes of meeting each other.

A voice deep within you makes you believe that you have found your soulmate. It is a mutual feeling that takes no time to develop. You instantly know that you have found that special person with whom you are ready to walk to the end of this world. This can happen at any stage in life and most likely at times when you are least prepared for it.

It is not wrong to say that the first sight is more of an attraction and infatuation. But if this first attraction develops into love it would not be wrong to say that it was love at first sight. So what would you say – is love at first sight real or fake?
