Life is full of unexpected moments that at times turn awkward. It becomes even more difficult to manage if the awkward situation pops up during a date with your girlfriend. You will need to carefully plan your date and be prepared to face a few unexpected awkward situations in case they show up or are unavoidable. Last thing you need to do is panic and ruin your entire date. More so important during your first date or initial stages of dating.

Your first date and initial few dates that follow are very important in setting the tone for your future relationship. Any awkward situation handled badly will put her off or have negative impression on you. Hence it is advised to be well prepared to avoid or diffuse any awkward situations. It may not happen all the time but very important you learn to be prepared so that you are not caught off guard for the situation.

While some awkward situations are due to improper planning or lack of preparedness such as inappropriate place of date or movie, awkward silence, inappropriate topics on first date, out of bound humour etc. other situations are out of your control and out rightly unexpected such as ex-girlfriend at the date, running into a pesky friend, car trouble etc. You should plan your date carefully before hand to deal with first category of awkwardness and be well prepared to deal with latter category of awkwardness.

Bad Date Idea

Sometimes you may jump the gun in deciding a place or theme of date that may not be in good taste with your girlfriend. If you chose a non-vegetarian restaurant when your girl is vegan, apologise and choose to go for a nearby alternative.

Bad Movie

Not all women like action or thrillers. If you ended up booking such a movie date and find your girlfriend has reservations, try to cancel it and choose to buy tickets for movie of her liking. If you are unable to find tickets, try to change the date to a dinner to fill in the time.

Awkward Silence

In the initial stages of dating you are bound to have awkard silence situations. It is better you know her likings and be prepared with topics she is interested in and do your research so that you can strike interesting conversations when things start to go cold.

Bad Joke

Not all jokes are funny and some you try to crack might make her awkward. When you end up telling an awkward joke that is not to her taste, don't be embarrassed to apologise. Try sticking to universal PG-rated humour for the rest of the date.

Ex-girlfriend

Running into an ex on your date is not something you anticipate or plan. When you do so, try to cut short your conversation and keep it minimal to range of introduction and greetings. You don't want your current girlfriend feel left out and at odds by having long talk time with your ex.

Pesky Friend

We all have pesky friends in our group who we run into every now and then despite avoiding them. If it happens on your date, deal with patience and tolerance. You don't want to get into confrontation and ruin the date. Side step any fights and postpone dealing with it for later.

Car Trouble

What a nightmare that could be. We don't wish for it but when it does happen, deal with it in a smart way by smiling and assuring her things are under control. Find alternate mode of transport and turn the situation to your advantage by enjoying the ride.
