Navratri Recipes 2026: Quick Navratri Recipes You Can Make In Under 30 Minutes
Fasting should not mean spending hours at the stove. Navratri begins on Sunday, 11 October, and runs for nine days, and many people will juggle offices, school runs and evening aartis alongside the vrat. These Navratri recipes for 2026 keep the cooking time under 30 minutes, with simple ingredients and steps.
Household customs vary, so check what your family permits before cooking. Sendha namak (rock salt) replaces regular salt in all of the recipes below.
Before You Start: The Navratri Pantry
A few basics make every recipe faster. Keep ghee, rock salt, cumin, green chillies, boiled potatoes and roasted peanuts ready. Store kuttu (buckwheat), singhara (water chestnut) and rajgira (amaranth) flours in airtight containers, and buy them in small packs from a trusted source, since these flours can spoil quickly. Check them for any off smell before use.
Main Meals
1. Aloo Jeera (15 minutes, serves 2)
Ingredients: 3 boiled potatoes cubed, 1 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 green chilli, rock salt, a squeeze of lemon, coriander.
Method: Heat the ghee and splutter the cumin. Add the chilli and potatoes, season with rock salt and toss on medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes until lightly golden. Finish with lemon juice and coriander. It pairs well with kuttu puri or curd.
2. Kuttu Ki Puri (25 minutes, serves 2 to 3)
Ingredients: 1 cup kuttu atta, 1 boiled and mashed potato, ½ tsp cumin, rock salt, water as needed, ghee or oil for frying.
Method: Mix the flour, mashed potato, cumin and salt, and knead into a firm dough with a little water. The potato acts as a binder and keeps the puris from breaking. Rest for 5 minutes. Roll small, even rounds and fry on medium heat until they puff.
3. Samak Rice Khichdi (20 minutes, serves 2)
Ingredients: ½ cup samak rice (barnyard millet), 1 medium potato cubed, 2 tbsp roasted peanuts, 1 tsp ghee, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 1 green chilli, rock salt, 1 cup water, chopped coriander.
Method: Rinse the samak rice and soak for 10 minutes. Heat the ghee, add cumin and the chilli, then the potato, and sauté for 2 minutes. Add the drained rice, water and salt. Cover and cook for 10 to 12 minutes until fluffy. Top with peanuts and coriander.
Breakfast And Snacks
4. Rajgira Paratha (25 minutes, serves 2 to 3)
Ingredients: 1 cup rajgira atta, 1 boiled potato mashed, 1 chopped green chilli, rock salt, ghee for cooking.
Method: Knead the flour with the potato, chilli and salt into a soft dough. Roll gently between greased sheets, since rajgira dough cracks easily. Cook on a hot tawa with ghee for 1 to 2 minutes per side.
5. Singhare Ke Atte Ka Cheela (15 minutes, serves 2)
Ingredients: ½ cup singhara atta, ¼ cup curd, water, rock salt, 1 chopped green chilli, coriander, ghee.
Method: Whisk the flour, curd and water into a pourable batter, then add salt, chilli and coriander. Spread a ladleful on a greased tawa and cook for 2 minutes per side.
6. Sabudana Khichdi (20 minutes of cooking, plus soaking)
Ingredients: ½ cup sabudana, 1 boiled potato cubed, ¼ cup coarsely crushed roasted peanuts, 1 tsp ghee, ½ tsp cumin, 1 green chilli, rock salt, lemon juice.
Method: Rinse the sabudana and soak it for 4 to 6 hours in just enough water to cover it. The pearls should be soft when pressed. Drain very well. Heat the ghee, add cumin, chilli and potato, then the sabudana, peanuts and salt. Cook on low heat for 5 to 7 minutes and finish with lemon juice. Soaking ahead is what keeps it from turning sticky.
Sweet And Light
7. Makhana Kheer (25 minutes, serves 2)
Ingredients: 1 cup makhana, 2 cups full-fat milk, 1 tsp ghee, 2 tbsp sugar, ¼ tsp cardamom powder, chopped nuts.
Method: Roast the makhana in ghee for 3 to 4 minutes until crisp, then crush half of it. Simmer the milk, add all the makhana and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring now and then. Stir in the sugar and cardamom, then top with nuts. It thickens as it cools.
8. Fruit Chaat (5 minutes, serves 2)
Ingredients: Chopped apple, banana, pomegranate and grapes, lemon juice, rock salt, a pinch of vrat-friendly chaat masala.
Method: Toss the fruit with lemon juice, salt and masala and serve straight away.
Fasting Smart
Quick food is not the same as balanced food. Include a source of protein such as curd, paneer, peanuts or makhana, drink enough water through the day and avoid long gaps between meals. Go easy on deep-fried items.
People with diabetes, pregnant women and anyone with a medical condition should speak to a doctor before fasting.
