Kala chana chaat is a common tea-time snack and in some places, it is even had for breakfast. Chana chaat is commonly prepared and served for Iftar as a staple food.
Who doesn't love chaat? Chaat is a word that evokes the tastebuds and hunger of every person. All the crunchy, crispy things cascading on the soft chickpea and the waves of spicy, sweet, tangy flavours hitting the palette, leaves us wanting more and more.
Black chickpeas chaat is popularly available near the beaches and also the streets of Mumbai and is a perfect snack to be had during the monsoon seasons. It also has a great deal of heath benefits.
The kala chana chaat can be prepared in many different ways. Here, we are layering the chaat with black chickpeas, potato chips, curd, chutneys, spices and spicy boondi to make it a rich and flavourful delight.

Coriander-mint chutney - 2 tbsp
Tamarind chutney - 4 tbsp
Thick curd - 5 tbsp
Boiled kala chana - 1 bowl
Potato chips (classic salted) - 10-15
Kashmiri chilli powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Chaat masala - 2 tsp
Spicy boondi - 1 cup
Coriander leaves (finely chopped) - 1 tbsp

1. Take the boiled kala chana in a mixing bowl.
2. Add a layer of potato chips on top of the chana.
3. Add curd on top.
4. Add coriander-mint chutney.
5. Add tamarind chutney.
6. Add kashmiri chilli powder and salt.
7. Then add the chaat masala.
8. Sprinkle spicy boondi on top.
9. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
- 1. You can add a layer of chopped onions and tomatoes to give it a different flavour.
- 2. You can sprinkle sev on top instead of spicy boondi.
- 3. Some grated carrot and cucumber are great ingredients to be added to the chaat to give it a cooling and healthy effect.

STEP BY STEP - HOW TO MAKE KALA CHANA CHAAT
1. Take the boiled chana kala chana in a mixing bowl.

2. Add a layer of potato chips on top of the chana.
