Curd rice recipe is a popular South Indian dish that is a part of their everyday meal. According to Tamilians, a meal is incomplete without thayir saadam. The main ingredients in this recipe are cooked rice and curd; however, suitable spices, vegetables and fruits can also be added to it.
The thayir sadam, also known as daddojanam in Andra Pradesh, is also a coolant to the body and hence is consumed more during the scorching summer days. It is commonly given to children, as it has a high nutritional value, especially calcium.
The dahi chawal is a quick and simple recipe to make and it satisfies your sudden hunger pangs. If you are not in a mood to spend too much time cooking, this recipe is the best resort for a quick and tasty meal.

Rice - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Curd - 1 bowl
Cucumber (peeled & chopped) - 1/2 cup
Pomegranate seeds - 1/2 cup
Ginger (grated) - 1/4th of an inch
Green chilli (chopped) - 1
Coriander leaves (chopped) - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds (jeera) - 1/2 tsp
Hing (asafoetida) - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 7-10
Dried red chilli (cut) - 1 large

1. Add rice to a cooker and pour 2 cups of water in it.
2. Pressure cook it for up to 2 whistles and allow it to cool completely.
3. Add rice to a bowl followed by the curd.
4. Add the chopped cucumber and pomegranate seeds into the bowl.
5. Further, add ginger, green chilli, coriander leaves and salt.
6. In the mean time, pour oil in a heated pan.
7. Add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
8. Add jeera, hing, curry leaves and the red dried chilli to make the tadka (tempering).
9. Pour the tadka on to the curd rice bowl.
10. Mix thoroughly and serve.
- 1. You can add water based on your preference of how you want the consistency to be.

STEP BY STEP - HOW TO MAKE CURD RICE
1. Add rice to a cooker and pour 2 cups of water in it.

5. Further, add ginger, green chilli, coriander leaves and salt.

9. Pour the tadka on to the curd rice bowl.

10. Mix thoroughly and serve.
