Effects Of Being An Overprotective Parent
Parents generally tend to become protective about their kids. It’s normal to worry about your children’s safety and happiness. What becomes an issue is when parents tend to grow possessive about their children’s safety and happiness. They cross the protective line becoming overprotective. They take it upon them to protect the child’s smile and do everything in their power to make sure the child gets what he/she needs.
It’s understandable how parents feel but, is it justified? Do you think you are taking away a bit of the child and his growing process by becoming so protective? Yes, it is obvious you don’t want the child to get hurt, feel the pain or feel troubled in any way. But if you have felt it at some point, it is obvious your child is going to feel the same.
You can’t steal away from your child the moments that are natural for perfect growth. In fact, you will observe that this parenting style can generate a negative impact on your child. There will be obvious side effects which will not be helpful anyway. Let’s have a look at what the effects of being an overprotective parents are:

Natural Learning Inhibited
Your overprotective nature suffocates your children into a world that is somewhat similar to a prison. You don't allow them to explore and embark on a new journey afraid they would make mistakes and get hurt. What you forget, though, is that they will create new learning which is essential for them to grow.

Lowers The Confidence
How would you feel when your child turns to you for everything? He just can't function on his own. He does not believe in his own self to be able to do something great. Well, that's what your over protectiveness has done to him. He has no confidence in himself and tends to depend on you for directions.

Rebels As Kids
Your over protectiveness gives birth to rebellious kids. You will find that your kids are suddenly turning away from you, find you a control freak and would actually not want to listen to you. This is one of the side effects of being unnecessarily over protective.

Maximum Risk At Stake
When you are being overprotective as parents to toddlers, you forget about the freedom they are likely to get when they grow a bit older. They can misuse the freedom you would be giving them at that point as they are experiencing new found freedom. Teens with overprotective parents hold maximum risk as they can indulge in anything.

Lowered Self-Esteem
Another side effect of being an overprotective parent is lowered self-esteem. You have never allowed the child to get hurt, face challenges to lose and win or even allowed them to take control of a part of their lives. This could lead to lowered self-esteem as they don't know how to take charge and be their own person, like other kids.
