Possible Health Risks Of Delivering Baby At 35th Week
Pregnancy is one of the most exciting periods in a woman's life. But there are times when you have to go through unexpected mishaps during your pregnancy.
One of the nightmares related with pregnancy and delivery is premature birth. Normally, a full-term pregnancy stretches to about 40 weeks.
Any delivery before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy is considered as a premature delivery.
Many researches proved that premature babies suffer from many heath issues just after the birth and in the future.
This can be respiratory problems, jaundice, low blood sugar or abnormal body temperature. Born early at 35 weeks can cause many short-term and long-term complications.
This is applicable in case of both the baby and the mother. Apart from these, experiencing a premature delivery can put too much of an emotional pressure on the mother.
No matter what the reason is, a premature delivery can cause many health complications. The important thing to consider while managing a premature birth is to give immediate medical attention to both the baby and the mother.
Babies who are born as premature still have the chance to survive with minimum medical intervention.
Here, we will discuss more about the health risks of delivering a baby at the 35th week.
C-section
If you are at any risk like placenta previa or high blood pressure that may cause a premature birth, the doctors will prefer a C-section.
At the 35th week, the foetus will not be ready to go through a normal delivery. This is one among the health risks of delivering a baby at the 35th week.
Respiratory Problems
Lungs attain full growth by the end of a pregnancy period. So, babies born early at 35th week will suffer from many respiratory problems.
In certain cases, if the early delivery is pre-planned, doctors give medications to speed-up the growth of the lungs.
Jaundice
Physiological jaundice is another common symptom that can be seen in premature babies. This needs medical attention and will come to its normal stage with a proper medical treatment.
This is one of the health risks of delivering a baby at the 35th week.
Heart Diseases
There can be conditions like patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and low blood pressure (hypotension). These heart problems usually get corrected by themselves, if proper treatment is given on time.
If not treated well, excess blood will flow through the heart, which can cause a heart failure at a later stage.
Brain Problems
The chance for intraventricular haemorrhage is more in premature babies. This usually gets resolved by itself. However, immediate medical attention is the key in such cases.
This is one of the most important health risks of delivering a baby at the 35th week.
Temperature Control Problems
Since premature babies who are born at 35 weeks have less amount of stored fat, their chances to lose body heat rapidly are more. This hypothermia can also lead to breathing problems and low blood sugar levels. This is one of the risks of delivering at 35 weeks.
Infections
Since premature babies have an immature immune system, their chances for infections are more. If not treated in time, mild infections can proceed to serious conditions like sepsis. This is one among the health risks of delivering a baby at the 35th week.
