Summer season means summer vacations and summer vacations mean endless hours of play. But playing for long hours in the hot summer sun can be a reason for concern as risks of dehydration are very high.

Make Up For Lost Body Salts
How to protect children from dehydration from the summer heat? Make up for the lost body salts by including glucose drinks which also contain essential electrolytes.
There are many approved premixed powder available over the counter which serve the purpose. You can also give the exciting lemonade with a pinch of salt per glass.

Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes
When sitting indoors in the hot weather we are all tempted to switch on the air conditioner. While we may sit in one place children do not do so. They will move in and out of the air conditioned room which will cause sudden changes in their body temperatures.
This sudden change can be very harmful for the small bodies of the children as they do not get enough time to acclimatize their bodies to the changing conditions. This can also lead to dehydration in children.
Be Alert
Always be alert when it comes to children in the summer vacations. Keep note of every small change in behavior as children are not always capable of expressing their discomfort.
If your child is urinating less than normal, has dry mouth, looks exhausted, has dry skin or has fever immediately consult your doctor.
