Kerala Local Body Election Results 2025: Counting Of Votes Begin

The spotlight is on the Kerala local body polls as vote counting starts at 8 am. Ballots were cast in two phases, on December 9 and 11, across the state. Turnout reached 70.91 per cent in Phase 1 and 76.08 per cent in Phase 2. These numbers will shape political debate before the 2026 Assembly elections.

The elections select representatives to municipal corporations, municipalities, gram panchayats, block panchayats and district panchayats. Voting in the second phase took place in 595 local bodies spread across seven districts. Mattannur municipality in Kannur district is not part of this round, as its term ends only in September 2027.

Phase 1 of polling finished on December 9 and focused on seven districts. These were Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam. The two phases were held only two days apart, keeping political activities intense. Counting staff will open strong rooms where electronic voting machines are stored, including those at Malabar Christian College. Police personnel are posted outside these secure rooms. The State Election Commission will share trends and final figures once the electronic voting machines are tallied.
