1. Mamannan
A sociopolitical satire, this one comes as a reality check by Director Mari Selvaraj who created a drama that features not only commendable performances and a captivating screenplay by Vadivelu and Fahadh Fasil but shows how societal progress can eliminate the barriers of caste. Viewers can extremely relate to its themes and the thought-provoking analogies that are used throughout such as dog and pig symbolism to show the oppressor and the oppressed, privileged and underprivileged, and that in all that equality becomes elusive. Further, AR Rahman's background score against the intense storyline is like icing on the top.

This crime drama stars Vijay Verma and is about acid attacks and toxic masculinity. Vijay plays the role of a virtuous police officer which is very different from the shady roles that he has played in the past. This movie is about a world that may look unbelievable and yet it exists very much in society. It also exposes the dysfunctional family relationships of a small town and sheds light on pressing issues like female foeticide, corrupt politics, the education system, the institution of marriage and the marginalized position of women in society.
