Rat Fur Fashion – By Billy Reids
Fur Scarf's, hats and bags have been in the top fashion list since the very beginning because the fur fashion blends well with all genres of trend and style. Mink Fur has always been used for designer purpose but beating it's market is the new Rat Fur trend.
This fashion hails back to the 1930's, when a species of rats were brought to meet the dwindling fur trade. These are semi-aquatic rat called Nutria. These are two-foot-long, 10-to-20-pound rats, native to South America. The fur colour is a beautiful blend of golden tan and chocolate brown.
This trend which started for the 1930's reached it's peak in the 70's and US is still reeling under this fashion statement. Though cry to save animal habitat had got the shutter down for most of the fur trading companies, rat fur continues to rule the market.
The fashionistas always find a way to come up with something new to do with rat fur and designer Billy Reid, czar of menswear had set the ramp crazy with his hottest rat fur collection of hats, collars and cuffs. Oscar de la Renta and J. Mendel have also used nutria to add on to their style collections.
“I"ve seen [nutria] affect the area I live in. I really haven"t had a lot of experience working with fur, and this was a chance to do it that just felt right. I love the masculinity of it. It"s sort of the bad-ass fur," said Reid.
The coarseness of the fur and the particular golden shine makes this fur best to be teamed with an evening wear. Evening dresses are supposed to be subtly glamorous and the fur felt around your neck or dressed on your head flirts perfectly with the mood of the evening.
