Hats always were a fashion statement, and now rumours are abound about the world's most expensive hat that is set to fetch a staggering 100,000 dollars at the auction.

A Montecristi Panama, it is simply addressed as "The Hat," while is made of the finest toquilla straw by master weaver . Known for its class-appeal, the Montecristi Panama hats of Brent Black have been a favourite of many celebrities.

Weighing less than one ounce, the hat will not be blocked into a style or sized until the purchaser gives their final instructions. The Panama Hat Company of Brent Black, which commissioned the Hat, boasts a clientèle that includes the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Panama hat is a traditional brimmed hat from Ecuador that is made from the plaited leaves of the toquilla straw plant. Their name was derived after they became fashionable in the early 20th century when many travellers picked them up as they sailed through the Panama Canal.
