Shaheed Diwas 2023: Khudiram Bose, The Youngest Revolutionary Who Sacrificed Himself For The Country
Khudiram was born about a century backwards in time, on 03 December 1889 in Habibpur, which is a part of Midnapore in West Bengal. His father was a tehsildar with four children of which Khudiram was one. His life started on a tragic note but ended up being historically significant.

He lost both his parents to the vagaries of fate, and his elder sister, in a motherly role, raised him. He completed his high schooling in this way.
Impressionable Years Of Khudiram
Khudiram became the youngest Indian Freedom fighter in early 1900s when he was totally impressed by the speeches of Aurobindo and Nivedita. Khudiram played an active role in the partition of Bengal later. He was arrested first time at 15 years of age, when he was seen distributing pamphlets that strongly condemned British rule.
In1908, Khudiram joined revolutionary group namely the Anushilan Samiti headed by Aurobindo which had violent plans to oust the British. Here Khudiram not only learnt to make crude bombs but also knew how to launch attack on government officers in their police stations. His patriotic instincts got the better of him here and his anti-British journey started.
Khudiram And Douglas H Kingsford
Kingsford, the chief magistrate was a favourite target of the revolutionaries. His treatment of revolutionaries was thoroughly unacceptable. He had a rage towards the anti-partition and the swadeshi movement but he was lucky enough to escape all murder attempts and was finally transferred to Muzaffarpur and with this the revolutionaries would supposedly calm down, as per the government.
Khudiram Misses His Target
But the revolutionaries could not accept this situation. They thought of detonating a bomb in Kingsfords courtroom but then finally changed the plan and appointed Khudiram Bose The leaders then decided to appoint Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Kumar Chaki to assassinate Kingsford.
After deliberate planning, they attacked Kingsford's carriage in which unfortunately someone else's wife and kids were travelling. They died on the spot when Khudiram hurled bombs at the carriage and Kingsford had escaped from the jaws of death in a whisker.
Khudiram Bose Sent To The Gallows
Now the Calcutta police were called to find out the location of the duo and then take them into custody. Bose was captured at Waini train station; to which he had reached by walking all the way through. Prafulla took his life even before the police captured him. Now Khudiram Bose was handcuffed and taken to the police station where he was interrogated and then sentenced to death. Young Khudiram, gave up his last breath for the country he held more precious than his life, at the age eighteen, on 11 August 1908, and executed without mercy. This made him the youngest revolutionary to lose life at the hands of the British
There were reports that Khudiram had a smiling face before mounting the Scaffold. His body was taken out in a procession and thousands thronged around to have a darshan of him. People silently threw flowers on his body grieving the death of a star that would have shined bright for the nation if allowed to survive.
Ek Baar Bidaye De Ma, was a song that was composed by Pitambar Das, a Bengali Poet to immortalize the spirit of this 18-year-old boy who did not know anything more than worshipping his motherland. Pleased with his devotion, Bharat Mata took him back to her, rather too soon. It was way too soon for Khudiram, but he attained Veer swarg which only he could claim.
