Every day, we are witnessing the changes brought by social media in our society. Good or bad, the changes are evident and we are all aware of the impact it has on a global level. Social media has transformed its avatar from that of a medium of communication to that of a platform to raise your voice for the causes that you support.

The prodigious image shift of social media as a voice for social causes is not to be taken lightly because, if taken in the right direction - the positive impact it can have on the world is monumental!

The engaging results brought forth through the social media campaigns and awareness has made it the single most powerful medium. The millions and millions of social media users enjoy the freedom to involve in the causes that matter to them as an individual, which in fact affects the society at large.

It is highly unlikely that you pass a day without coming across a social cause campaign or awareness program in the various social media platforms you have accounts in. With social media helping in the journey of spreading and creating awareness, a large portion of the society have been influenced to take up socially influencing actions by themselves. One of the major influencing factors is celebrities!

International icons such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Rashida Jones and Bollywood celebrities such as Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty are big names in spreading awareness on social causes varying from environmental conservation to animal welfare.

Deepika Padukone, one of the prominent names in the Indian film industry set up a foundation to create awareness on the issue of mental health through the Live Love Laugh Foundation. The celebrated actress began the awareness campaign taking up from her own experience of fighting and overcoming depression.

Shilpa Shetty, an avid animal lover and activist against animal cruelty constantly spread awareness on the importance to boycott wild animals in circus. One other important name fitting to the purpose is Pooja Pradeep, the founder of Letters of Love who inspires to change the world - one letter at a time. By sending letters of motivation to kids caught in the Syrian conflict, Pooja's cause has received worldwide recognition and applause for spreading awareness on the importance of empathy, education and empowerment - where empathy stands out the most!

The efficient utilisation of social media in the recent years by influential figures as such have definitely helped in the birth and growth of a society, that is more empathetic and understanding of the need to be aware.

Facebook India's first ever Live-athon, #SocialForGood has been developed with the aim of bringing positive change in the way we communicate with each other on the internet. It aims to change the way we use social media, to do good 
in our society and community. The positive role of social media on the social causes, witnessed in recent times will be discussed on.

Along with it, the impact social media platforms have had on the bringing in substantial change to the way the world views such social causes will be probed in to by the panel of talents. The 4-hour live event will bring together some of the most influential names in pop culture, celebrities who have been advocates of positivity and awareness.

Facebook India will be joining hands with Priyanka Chopra for #SocialForGood, a global force who has voiced out her opinions on the power and the positive role of social media in bringing forth the right change in our society.

#SocialForGood Live-athon will use the platform to bring awareness to causes that matter with the help of some of the A-Listers of the industry. The speakers for the panel, who will share their thoughts and ideas on the subject matter will be Ayushmann Khurrana, Diljit Dosanjh, Afroz Shah & Karishma Mehta.
