To make friends from the opposite gender, setting some basic rules and defining the relationship can go a long way in keeping things within the boundaries of friendship.
Many people are shy to talk to opposite sex and make friendship with them. However, if they become friends, they can become nice buddies for lifetime.
No matter what kind of personality you are, you need to make friends from both the genders. However, you can get attracted to the opposite sex and want to make friendship that can last long.
You have to follow simple tips to start the friendship. It is important or otherwise your friendship will get jeopardised. You must keep a limit between friendship and love.
Today, Boldsky shares how to make friends with the opposite gender.

Decide What Your True Feelings Are
Determine how you feel about the person, and how they feel about you. Be honest with yourself. Do you really believe that this person is better suited to you as a friend than as a romantic partner. Why? Answer yourself and think what will keep the relationship stable and within limits. This is how to make friends with opposite gender.
Minimise sexual tension
Always keep a limit between friendship and love. Don't be free with your friend (touchy) even if you consider yourself to be a naturally affectionate person, and especially, if either of you are in a romantic relationship with someone else. Limit hugs and physical contact to the same degree that you share with a sibling or a co-worker.

Just act like friends
Don't give people a reason to think you're more than just friends. Don't bring your friend into social scenarios where everyone else has a date. That is called dating, not friendship.
End the friendship if you can't set boundaries
How to make lasting friendships? Always set the boundaries. If your friend is attracted to you as more than a friend and can't seem to put that attraction aside, it's probably best to take the friendship down a notch. Keep contact casual, conversations short and brief.

Keep your relationship healthy
How to make friends with opposite gender? Never talk rubbish or anything that demoralises the opposite sex, even if you are just cracking a joke. This will spoil the relationship.
Never mingle friendship with any romantic feeling
There is a thin line between friendship and romance. If you cross it, then neither of you can be good friends nor a good romantic couple.
Clear the confusion
If people get ideas that you are in a relationship, make it clear to them that you are just friend with him or her. We live in a conservative society and have to clear some misunderstandings ourselves. This can save the friendship. Opposite sex friendships are always more susceptible to wrong interpretations.
