Pankaj Tripathi's Brother Attacked With Axe in Bihar Village, Referred to Patna for Treatment

It was a Sunday night in Belsand village, Gopalganj, a quiet settlement in Bihar, not unlike the one that gave India one of its most celebrated character actors. Vijendra Nath Tiwari was outside his home, overseeing routine soil-filling work near the property, when assailants allegedly struck him from behind with an axe and a sharp-edged weapon. The commotion brought family members and neighbours rushing to the scene. By then, the attackers had fled.

Vijendra Nath Tiwari, the elder brother of Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi, sustained serious injuries in the assault and was first rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. Given the gravity of his condition, doctors referred him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

A Long-Running Land Feud Behind the Attack

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was rooted in a long-standing land dispute and old enmity between the parties involved. The accused have been identified by police, but they absconded immediately after the assault. Raids are being conducted to apprehend those responsible.

Sadar SDPO-2 Rajesh Kumar confirmed the circumstances of the attack, stating that Vijendra Nath Tiwari had been getting soil filled near his house when the accused came from behind and struck him with an axe and a sharp-edged weapon. "The matter is being investigated, and all those involved in the attack, including the main accused, will soon be put behind bars," Kumar was quoted as saying.

Village Residents in Shock

The incident occurred on Sunday night in Belsand village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Barauli police station area in Gopalganj district. The area, already familiar with the name Pankaj Tripathi - who was born in the same district and has spoken fondly of his village roots in numerous interviews - was left in a state of shock following the assault.

A case has been registered based on statements from the victim and eyewitnesses, and police teams were dispatched to the scene upon being informed of the attack.

Pankaj Tripathi's Roots in Gopalganj

Pankaj Tripathi, known for career-defining roles in Mirzapur, Sacred Games, and Stree, has long spoken about his humble origins in Gopalganj and his family's life in rural Bihar. His brother Vijendra Nath Tiwari continues to live in the village where the actor grew up. The attack has cast a shadow over the family and brought attention to the realities of land disputes - a deeply entrenched source of conflict in many parts of rural Bihar.

Police Assure Swift Action

Authorities have stated that an impartial probe is underway and that strict action will be taken against everyone found responsible. Police formed a special team and launched raids to apprehend the accused following the incident. As of Monday morning, the accused remained at large.

There has been no official statement from Pankaj Tripathi or his team as yet.

Bottomline

What happened in Belsand village on Sunday night is, at its core, a story that plays out in hundreds of villages across Bihar - a land dispute that simmers for years until it boils over into violence. That this family happens to share a name with one of India's most loved actors makes it visible; it does not make it exceptional. Vijendra Nath Tiwari's recovery and the swift arrest of those responsible must now be the priority.
