In this article, we are here to share some of the bizarre healing treatments that have been used by ancient doctors.
Some of these practices can make us wonder even how a lame man could think of these processes. These healing processes were quite painful, yet were truly effective. But this was not the case in all the healing treatments.

Electroconvulsive Treatment (ECT)
In 1938, a psychiatrist named "Ugo Cerletti" came up with this unique technique of electroconvulsive treatment, which was used on pigs generally before slaughtering them. This helped people to lose consciousness and believe that after the treatment the brain would re-route itself. Now, that is strange!

This healing technique involves scraping or drilling a hole in the skull. It is believed to cure ailments such as intracranial diseases. It is believed that it helps to cure migraines, epileptic seizures and many other mental disorders as well. Lobotomies
This healing treatment was one of the most barbaric techniques ever to be used in the history of medicine. This "so called" treatment helped to treat depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc. An ice pick was used to open the head of the patient. It never yielded any good results though, as the patients often turned into a vegetative state, even if they survived this horrendous procedure.

Bloodletting
This is one of the most ancient and widely used healing techniques in the world. It was used by Mesopotamians, Greeks, Egyptians, Aztecs, Mayans, and many others. In this technique, a large amount of blood is drawn in order to prevent or cure a certain disease or illness. It was believed that once the "contaminated blood" was recovered, it would help in curing the diseases.

Hirudotherapy
This is also referred to as "the treatment that sucks". This treatment is used to treat certain types of osteoarthritis blood clotting. In this technique, European medical leeches are used instead of leeches that are found in the wild. They are used in the treatment of blood clotting and to relieve the venous pressure of nerves by reducing the swelling and increasing the stimulation of blood.
