Bigg Boss 20 Qazi Touqeer’s Funny Take On Situationships And Benching: A Peek Into Today’s Relationship Trends
Bigg Boss 20 contestant Qazi Touqeer recently caught viewers' attention with his hilarious take on modern dating terms. During a conversation with Mary Kom, Qazi asked if she knew what "situationship" and "benching" meant. When she admitted she didn't, he decided to explain them - but his wildly literal definitions had little to do with their actual meanings.
He described a "situationship" as people going on a ship, creating a situation and then getting stuck in the middle of the ocean. His explanation of "benching" was equally unexpected, involving a boy sitting on a bench while a girl lay underneath cleaning his shoes. The clip went viral, with fans even comparing his delivery to Praful from the popular sitcom 'Khichdi'.
While Qazi's interpretations were meant for laughs, the relationship terms themselves have real meanings - and there are several other modern labels that describe how people date, live and build relationships today.
Situationship: More Than Dating, Less Than A Relationship?
A situationship refers to a romantic or intimate connection that has some elements of a relationship but lacks a clearly defined status or commitment. The people involved may spend considerable time together and share an emotional or physical connection without officially considering themselves a couple.
Cushioning: Keeping Other Options Open
Cushioning refers to maintaining connections with potential romantic alternatives while already dating someone, essentially keeping other options in the background in case the current relationship doesn't work out.
Benching: Keeping Someone On Standby
Benching is when someone keeps a potential romantic interest around without seriously pursuing a relationship. They may continue sending messages or showing occasional interest, while keeping the person as an option rather than moving the relationship forward.
DINK: Double Income, No Kids
DINK stands for Double Income, No Kids. It generally describes couples who both earn and have chosen not to have children. The term is often associated with couples prioritising careers, travel, hobbies or other aspects of their lifestyle.
DINKWAD: Double Income, No Kids, With A Dog
Take DINK and add a four-legged family member. DINKWAD stands for Double Income, No Kids, With A Dog, describing couples with two incomes and no children who have a dog as part of their household.
LAT: Living Apart Together
LAT, or Living Apart Together, describes committed couples who intentionally maintain separate homes. Unlike living apart because of circumstances, LAT is a deliberate relationship arrangement that allows partners to maintain their own spaces and routines.
Relationships Are Changing, And So Is The Vocabulary
From Qazi's hilarious Bigg Boss 20 explanations to terms describing real-life relationship choices, modern romance certainly has its own vocabulary. While not every couple will identify with these labels, they offer a glimpse into how people are increasingly defining relationships on their own terms.
