'Best Individual' award for city doctor: service to disabled

Dr Sunder Subramanian, Senior Consultant at the Hospital and renowed rehabilitation specialist would receive the award from President Prathiba Patil on December three, the 'World Disability Day'.
The award was in recognition of his contributions and service to the disabled community for more than a decade, according to a press release here today.
Every year the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment would present the 'National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities' in 11 different categories to individuals with disabilities and to individuals and institutions which support and empower disabled community.
This year Dr Sunder was selected to receive this award under 'Best Individual' category for his tireless efforts to rehabilitate the differently abled. He was the recipient of the Tamil Nadu Government's 'Best Doctor for Social Service' award last year.
Dr Sunder had so far supported more 3000 disabled individuals through 68 assessment and distribution camps. Through various programmes for disabled, he continues to rehabilitate, train and offer vocational placement for handicapped.
