Aravind Adiga Donates Part Of Award Money To His College
Aravind Adiga, winner of his novel 'The White Tiger' , donated a part of the award money to his alma mater - St Aloysius College.
According to an E-mail sent by Mr Adiga to St Aloysius College Director Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, he had already sent Rs 15 lakh to the Rector of the College with an appeal that the fund be used to start a special scholarship fund for the higher education of the under-privileged children residing at Aloysian Boys Home, Kotekar near Ullal.
Mr Adiga had expressed his desire that this scholarship be named after his teacher and mentor late Fr Victor D'Souza, who was an excellent teacher of Science.
The Aloysian Boys Home for the delinquent children was established by the college to commemorate its centenary back in 1981.
Meanwhile, the management of St Aloysius College had planned to honour Adiga for winning the book review on January four, 2009 during its annual conclave. The conclave will be attended by its alumni from all over the world.
Mr Adiga will also deliver a special lecture to commemorate this event.
During the annual conclave, some of the distinguished alumni would be honoured for their meritorious service to the mankind in various fields.
