A leading South Asian author Bapsi Sidhwa has written a book based on Deepa Mehta's controversial film Water. Apparently, Deepa Mehta's last film, 1947 Earth was based on a novel by Sidhwa. This time however, things went the other way round. Deepa Mehta provided a complete screenplay to Bapsi Sidhwa to write a novel based on the film. It took four months for Sidhwa to finish the novel. The novel creates a backstory for the main character of the film called Chuyia, played by the Sri Lankan child actor Sarla.
This is however, the second book on Deepa Mehta's Water. The first book was Shooting Water written by Deepa Mehta's daughter Devyani Saltzman.
