LPG: 5 Important Precautions When Using Gas Cylinders
Liquefied petroleum gas is used in almost every household. It is the most important and dangerous part of cooking requirements. It is important to ensure that you are using gas cylinders safely. For this, you should know all the precautions of handling gas cylinders.
The precautions for gas cylinder handling can be divided into three categories. Care needed when buying your LPG, precautions when cooking with LPG and steps for LPG maintenance. There are many valves and pipe connections that are subjected to a lot of wear and tear. So, a constant monitoring is always required.
Always remember to buy cylinders from authorised franchises. Also, these should come with the company seal and the cap of the cylinder should be intact. The date on the cylinder should also be noted. You have every right to reject the cylinder if the date has expired and if the seal is broken.
A small kink in the cylinder can cost you your life or your loved one's. Here are a few gas cylinder precautions that you should consider.

Handling
Keep the gas cylinder in the upright position, unless it is designed otherwise. The cylinders should be secured safely to prevent from falling. Gas cylinders should not be dropped, rolled or dragged. When a gas cylinder is brought, ensure that the right one is brought for the intended purpose.

Using the LPG
The gas cylinder safety precautions include a long list of dos and don’ts. Care should be taken to ensure that the kitchen is properly ventilated while using the cylinder. Flammable or any kind of plastic items should be kept as far as possible from the flame. When not in use, the regulator knob in the cylinders should always be off.
Transporting the gas cylinder
There will surely be times when you will need to transport the gas cylinder. There are a few gas cylinder precautions that need to be taken into consideration while transporting. The vertical position is the best option for transporting. All the caps and covers should be fitted before transporting the cylinder. This will also avoid any dirt from gathering into the valve of the cylinder.

Storage
It is always a good idea to store only the amount as per the requirement. The best place to store the gas cylinder is in a dry and a safe place, preferably in a well-ventilated part of the house. The gas cylinders should be protected from external heat sources. These are a few of the gas cylinder safety precautions.
Tubes and Regulators
Utmost care should be given to all the tubes and regulators that are used with the cylinders. They are prone to a lot of leaks. So, a periodic maintenance is good for this. One of the important gas cylinder precautions is to replace the worn out tubes at the earliest. It is always better to ask for assistance rather than tampering with the cylinders.
