'Salt' – an indispensable ingredient in our daily diet. Whether it is in the preparation of a savory dish, or marinating chicken in your favorite dish, salt plays an important role. The secret to tasty pickles is the use of salt as a preservative. However, did you know that the eco-friendly cleaner, salt, could be used as an ingredient to clean your house too?

Right from the kitchen to the bathroom, the eco-friendly cleaner, salt is used to clean, thus ensuring no harm is done to the environment. Also, it is cheaper and less harmful mode of cleaning. Given below are some great home-improvement tips that help you use the eco-friendly cleaner, salt in better housekeeping.

Uses of the natural cleaning agent salt -

1.Soaking your brightly colored curtains in salt water helps prevent the color from running. If you have washable curtains in your house, you can brighten the same if you wash them in saltwater solution. You can remove the yellowness from your linens by boiling them in water mixed with salt and baking soda.

2.If your favorite curtains have rust stains on them, apply a paste of vinegar and salt on the stained area. Allow them to dry thoroughly in the sun, and later wash off. Repeat to get rid of the entire stains.

3.Sticky spots on your iron can be removed by running it on a piece of paper that has salt on it. (Note: Set the iron on low)

4.One part of the natural cleaning agent, salt when mixed with 3 parts boiling water can be used to kill the weed in the garden. By pouring salt directly on ants or slugs in your garden, you can kill them.

5.Salt is a natural ingredient to get rid of burn stains your pans. Scrubbing your chopping board with lemon dipped in salt helps kill the bacteria on board and also keeps it smelling fresh.

6.In case of any grease fire, pour salt on it to extinguish the same.

7.Once in a while, pour a cup of salt followed by 2 cups of boiling water down the drain. This will keep out the drains from clogging and also keeps away odors. This eco-friendly cleaner, salt, is definitely better that any other chemical cleaning agent.

8.Mix equal parts of salt and cornstarch with water and make a thick paste. This mixture can be used to fill in cracks or holes in plaster.

9.Prevent your new candles from dripping by soaking them in a strong solution of salt water. After drying, they can be used as usual.

10.Place your artificial flowers in a packet of salt. Shake the packet quite briskly. The salt takes away dust from every nook and corner of the flower. After you take out the flowers they are as good as new.
