How to reduce electricity and water bills?
Does your electricity bill and water bill soar every month? Here are some tips to reduce the mounting bills. Use them and see the difference yourself next month.
Reducing electricity bill
Reduce your electricity bill with theses energy conservation methods.
For close work use task lighting rather than lighting the whole room unnecessarily.
Use compact fluorescent bulbs than incandescent bulbs. These bulbs generate less heat than others.
However do not use fluorescent lamps in high humidity rooms like bathrooms, as the moisture will get into the electronics.
Use regular light bulbs with alight dimmer as you can dim the light when needed thus using less power.
A thin layer of dust can also reduce light levels therefore dust your lamps and light fixtures with the power off.
Computers are usually kept on, as we do not want to waste time when it boots. But do you know a computer switched on for an hour consumes as much energy as 14-watt compact lamp for 24hours? Remember to switch off your devise when not in use.
There are many such devices that are never turned off like TV, Videocassette recorders, DVD players and cable TV converters. Theses items eat up maximum power. However when switched off you can save 0.6kwh per day.
Small appliances use less power than larger ones. For instance, save money by using microwave oven rather than a regular electric oven/stove or Use an electric kettle rather than a stovetop one Lowering the refrigerator temperature only wastes power. So, Keep the refrigerator section between 36 to 42 degree F and the freezer to 0 degree F.
Install switches at some of the fixtures to control lighting individually. This will reduce the number of lights that are on.
Use fans instead of air conditions, as fans use much less power for similar perceived cooling effects than air conditioners.
Don't run the dishwasher until it is completely full. By reducing the number of loads it is easy to reduce the amount of power used. After the wash let the dishes dry at the room temperature. Don't use the hot-dry cycle as it uses the electric heating element.
Reducing Water Bill
Save a litre each time you flush by fitting a Save-a-Flush device.
Don't leave the tap open while brushing your teeth or washing up. Use a bowl instead.
Collect rainwater in a water butt. Water plants on alternate days rather than watering it daily.
Wash your dishes by hand once a while, as you will use only 6 litres of water than, 35 litres of water by dishwasher.
Close the dripping tap as losing a drop a second will waste 15 litres of water a day.
These methods will help you to conserve energy as will as save money. Use it for the better.
