We all start out lives with a basic salary that is strictly speaking 'basic'. So basic furniture is all we can afford at the beginning of a new life. To manage your finances well you have to choose the furniture for your new home in such a way that you buy only what is absolutely necessary. And how would you come to that conclusion? 1. Living Room:

• It is a small apartment (as it will be in the beginning of your career) it will have have a common drawing cum dinning space. Firstly there is a limitation to what all you can keep in that space and secondly it have to be an inexpensive decor that you choose.
• So may have grown up seeing living rooms with plush sofas but the best thing here would be to not buy sofas. Scatter huge comfortable cushions on the ground or use other sofa alternatives that are cheap.
• A good solid centre table instead is basic furniture you will need and match with your sofa later. A shoe rack too is a necessity though we treat it like an indulgence;it doesn't have an alternative.

2. Dinning Space:

• Whether it is attached with your living room or not you will surely need a dinning table for civilisied eating. So a table becomes your essential furniture for a new home. Wood is expensive, glass tops are slightly cheaper but rot iron will fit your budget perfectly.
• If you still wish to splurge on a sofa then accommodate a small kitchen table in your kitchen and leave the dinning space for the living room furniture. In that case you can buy a plastic table or build a fold in table on the wall.

3. Bedroom:

• Your biggest advantage is that your bedroom is not visible to all guests but then you will be spending most of your time here.
• You can do without a bed to start with. Buy a good quality thick mattress and make it a low bed by putting in ply wood sheets under it. Wait till you can afford a bed with storage space because they are really useful.
• The most important new home furniture in your bedroom is your closet because you definitely need it. If the closet is inbuilt then let it be wood, otherwise buy a metal closet that is sturdy.
• Whether or not you buy side tables, get yourself a night lamp and save the bruises.
