What Causes Pain In The Liver?
Most of the liver diseases do not show any symptoms in the first stage. That is why it is tough to diagnose them in the early stages. Here are a few facts related to reasons behind liver pain.
Where is the liver located and what pains it? Well, it is under the ribs. It's main job is to filter the blood by removing the toxins in it.
What cause liver pain? Infections and certain diseases cause inflammation and swelling in the liver. That is when upper abdominal pain is experienced.
Most of the liver diseases do not show any symptoms in the first stage. That is why it is tough to diagnose them in the early stages. And when the liver starts paining, it could mean that the liver damage has reached another level. That is why knowing about other symptoms of liver issues may help. Here are a few facts related to symptoms and reasons behind liver pain.

Actually, the liver doesn't have nerve endings on it to experience pain. Then what causes the pain? Well, inflammation of the tissues surrounding the liver is seen as the cause of liver pain.

Hepatitis can also cause liver pain as it results in inflammation. That is why pain is experienced below the ribs. Inflamed bile ducts could also cause the pain in the area of the stomach.

Swelling, pain, yellowish skin and swollen ankles are some of the symptoms of liver pain. Consult a doctor and get yourself tested if you see such symptoms.

Too much of fat in the liver could cause fatty liver disease. While being an alcoholic could cause alcoholic fatty liver disease, the reasons behind non-alcoholic fatty liver disease are not yet completely understood by the scientific community. Some risk factors are obesity, cholesterol issues and viral infections. Fatty liver could cause pain.

Liver cirrhosis causes damage and scarring of the liver. In the initial stages, it doesn't show symptoms but later on, pain and sensitivity can be experienced in the area where the liver is located.

Excessive alcoholic consumption and infections like hepatitis C could cause cirrhosis. Some of its symptoms are itchy skin, fatigue, nausea, weight loss and swollen legs.

Hepatitis causes pain in the liver area. Other symptoms include fatigue, fever, joint pains and body aches. Skin becomes yellow in colour and the urine turns dark and stools take light shade.

Liver cysts tend to enlarge the liver and that causes pain. What are cysts? Well, they are fluid-filled sacs that form inside the liver. They could cause pain and swelling.

Hemochromatosis is a medical condition which results in accumulation of iron in the liver. Symptoms include weight loss, weakness, joint pain and stomach pain. Too much of iron in the liver can damage it.

Liver cancer can also cause pain. Cancerous tumours enlarge the liver and cause terrible pain. Sudden weight loss, stomach pain, shoulder pain (towards the right side), jaundice and enlarged spleen are some symptoms.
