Navratri Vrath: If You Have Low BP Then This Is A Must Have
If you have low blood pressure and want to fast during this navratri then black salt can help you.
The 10 days of Navarathri have already started and many people are observing fasts.
Fasting is an essential part of the Navarathri festival. There are both spiritual as well as scientific reasons behind fasting. It is said that fasting pleases Maa Durga and invokes her blessings.
Fasting is also a way of abstaining from all the materialistic things of the world. It shows our true devotion to the Goddess.

Scientifically, fasting is a process to detoxify our body. Fasting helps our digestive system to eliminate toxins. It also helps in increasing the metabolic rate and restores our immune system. Fasting will decrease the load on our digestive system for a while.
The biggest advantage of fasting is learning self-control. All this will result in mindfulness and clarity of thoughts.
There are certain rules to be followed during Navarathri fasting. Only certain things are allowed to be consumed during the fast.
Things like fruits, tapioca seeds (sabudana), milk products, sugar, tamarind, tea, coffee and dry fruits are allowed. Anything containing salt, onion, garlic, all the lentils and legumes, non-veg food and alcohol are strictly not allowed.
Grains like rice, atta, sooji and besan are also not allowed. Instead, you can consume things made from amaranth and buckwheat flour.

Fast During Navratri & Low Blood Pressure:
Fasting during Navarathri is not compulsory but a lot of people may opt for it due to religious reasons. It will usually not create any complications health-wise but people suffering from low blood pressure may have to take certain precautions.
As people abstain from consuming salt during the fast, your BP might drop. What if we tell you there is a way to observe your fast without worrying about your BP dipping low?

Black Salt - The Best Alternative:
There are certain rules of Navarathri fasting which benefit people suffering from low BP. Though salt is prohibited, its healthier counterpart is definitely allowed - black salt.
The reason behind this is that fasting is seen as a way to practice abstinence and getting closer to god by promoting healthy eating. Therefore, the use of processed food is restricted, giving importance to the use of unprocessed and natural food.
Black salt is unprocessed and comparatively healthier than regular salt. It has many medicinal properties and is good for the human body. This is why it is allowed during Navarathri fast.
Hypotension or low Blood pressure can cause serious health complications. It can deprive your body of enough oxygen to carry out certain basic functions, leading to damage of heart and brain. The best way to treat low blood pressure is to increase your intake of salt in your diet.
Doctors usually do not recommend fasting for low blood pressure patients, but if you want to fast then it is better to keep eating small portions of food throughout the day. Substituting normal salt with black salt will allow you to continue with your fasting as well as keep your BP levels normal.

When your blood pressure falls, your brain produces chemicals called neurotransmitters. It causes your heart to beat faster and causes your blood vessels to tighten. This can result in low blood supply to the heart and can cause heart attack.
Intake of black salt will keep up your blood pressure and reduce the risk of a heart attack.
Black salt also has numerous health benefits such as,
- It is known to cure constipation.
- It helps with weight loss
- It helps cure respiratory disorders.
- It controls diabetes and helps people come out of depression.
- It is an amazing skin cleanser and detoxifier.
The bottom line is, Navarathri or not, include this amazing ingredient in your diet now!
