Strange Reason Why Pineapple Cuts Your Tongue
Pineapple is one of the fruits after lemon that we pretty much avoid. The reason being - these fruits cut the tongue like a knife slicing it into half.
If you ever thought this could be an allergic reaction from eating pineapples, you are wrong. According to an expert it is stated that the - "irritation is caused by a combination of enzymes in pineapples called bromelian, which breaks down proteins and essentially attacks your tongue, cheeks, and lips on contact".

But strangely after you swallow the fruit, both your saliva and stomach acids overtake them and the good news is that your tongue rebuilds those proteins and amino acids, so it won't be sore for long.
There are other fruits too which cause this problem - lemon and amla or the Indian gooseberry are some. Experts also state the reason as the presence of acids in these fruits.

There are a lot of people who suck on a piece of lemon either for weight loss, stomach problems or for nauseousness. In the process the tongue and the lining of the mouth feels cut and begins to peel too.

If you are likely to give up this delicious fruit 'pineapple', here are the reasons for you to think it over. Bromelian is good for the body as it helps in treating inflammation, swelling, indigestion and even excessive blood clotting.
It is a good enzyme since the proteins carry out numerous functions in the structure and operation of cells, tissues and organs. Well, with this said, it is necessary for you to consume this delicious fruit once in a while even though it puts your tongue through an entire mess!

Tip: To enjoy pineapple in it's natural form, add the fruit slices to a mixed salad. You can top it up with chaat masala or pepper and salt. FYI: Adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to a bowl of pineapple slices, helps to cut the sore effect a little.
