Most people have the habit of biting their nails. They keep on biting to the extent that their nails have become so short and their hands look unappealing. Sometimes they bite the nails so deep that the area of nails gets painful and blood starts to come out.

Biting nails also has a psychological reason behind. Most people bite their nails when they are stressed and some bite when they are deeply thinking. Some people bite their nails as they have nothing to do. However, this habit of nail biting is very difficult to quit for the person.

Bacterial Infections
There are many bacteria hidden inside your nails and a research has shown that there are twice the bacteria present in your nails as in your hands. Even if you wash your hands but the bacteria still remains in your nails. When you bite your nails the bacteria goes inside your mouth and then in the body causing bacterial infections.

Nail Infections
Biting your nails causes abrasions, cuts and sores on your nail area. This can offer an easy entry for bacteria. The bacteria enter through these cuts into your blood and can cause nail infections and blood infections as well. This is one of the most harmful effects of nail biting.

Short And Deformed Nails
One of the negative side effects of nail biting is deformed nails. Frequent biting of nails can change the length and shape your nails permanently. You must have seen that people who bite their nails have deformed nails which spoil the look of the hands.

Warts
Frequent nail biters are more susceptible to warts that occur around finger nails. It is a viral infection caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV). When the person bites the nail, the infection from warts is transmitted to mouth and then to other body parts. This is also among the health risks of nail biting.

Dental Problems
Nail biting causes weak teeth and may divert your teeth from their normal position and they appear to be aligned. Teeth may be chipped and suffer from frequent wear and tear. Apart from that you might get gum infections. This is a long term effects of nail biting.

Occupied Hands
People who have a habit of biting nails can't do their work on time. They are slow and have low work efficiency as their hands are occupied in their mouth biting nails.

Poor Life Quality
Nail biting people have a poor life quality as their nails may pain, have various infections both in nails as well as in body. They can't eat and cook as their nails are paining. Moreover they suffer from more stress as they are always trying to resist this habit. This ruins their mental peace also.
