CLEAN YOUR WHITE TONGUE: Simple Ways
Whenever we discuss oral hygiene, people usually tend to talk about good brushing habits and flossing. We even consider cleaning the gums, but we generally tend to overlook tongue hygiene. It is essential that we should know how to tongue clean since the tongue is a place where many bacteria can grow. Unhygienic tongue not only leads to many oral diseases like rotten teeth and bad breath, but it also affects the general well being of your body.
Here we discuss some tongue hygiene tips which will help you keep your tongue healthy and clean. It is recommended that you follow these guidelines regularly, at least twice a day.

Tongue scraping
Of the many techniques on how to keep the tongue clean, the most common one is to use a tongue scraper. You can use a plastic or metallic tongue scraper to clean your tongue, but be careful that you do not press too hard that bleeding may occur.

Mouthwash
Using a mouthwash in between meals helps prevent the growth of bacteria on your tongue that is responsible for bad breath. This will help in maintaining tongue hygiene and oral health.

Saline water
Rinsing your mouth regularly with saline water also serves the same purpose as using a mouthwash. It helps prevent germ build up on your tongue and does not allow bacteria and food debris to decay and cause bad breath.

Ointments
You might have noticed the white coating on your tongue when you have fever. In some cases it might be caused by a fungal infection. Then, you need to use some ointments prescribed by your physician to maintain tongue hygiene.

Use the back of the toothbrush
Many companies have come forward with models of toothbrush that have some rough ridges on the back side. This can be used, sometimes with toothpaste, to clean and maintain tongue hygiene.

Green tea
Green tea has many health benefits, one of which is that it eliminates oral bacteria. Drinking green tea helps in tongue hygiene and is among the many methods adopted on how to keep tongue clean.

Water
Dehydration can also cause discolouration and drying of the tongue. This is not good for tongue hygiene and you must drink plenty of water daily to prevent dehydration. It also helps in good bowel movements.

Harmful foods
There are many foods that may cause allergy and irritation on your tongue. This may vary from person to person. Avoiding such foods promotes tongue hygiene. But if eaten, make sure to thoroughly clean your mouth and tongue.

Before and after a meal
Many people advice to clean your mouth after a meal. But research has shown that having a clean mouth and tongue even before the meal helps in tongue hygiene as it prevents harmful bacteria from reaching the stomach.

Regular cleaning
All the above tips on how to tongue clean must be practised regularly, after breakfast, and before bed. Following these tips will help you not only for a better oral health, but also for a pink and healthy tongue.
