Healthy Tips For Night Shift Workers
Shifts are pretty normal in this globalized world. With countries trying to converse with each other and, shifts being decided based on time difference, night shift is quite a given. Apart from globalization, there are those regular workers, unaffected by globalization who has taken to shifts. These include nurses, factory workers, security and health workers.
With these shift jobs in hand, there comes a major trouble of you facing sleep disorders. As much as you wish to avoid it, your overall health is compromised by these odd shift hours. No wonder, most of you have been facing absenteeism and accidents due to your odd working hours.
Many of you are also suddenly coming up with troubles related to memory loss and have major issue focusing on something. Your health stays troubled with these odd working hours and you have no idea how to get over it. Most of you have odd shifts that change every week owing to which your body does not have a regular pattern for itself. You are also prone to health problems like ulcers, insulin resistance, heart diseases etc. There are some health tips which if you follow, may help you handle the odd shift hours especially the night ones.

Modify Body Clock
Your body is tuned to sleep at night and stay awake during the day. It's quite normal! But, given that you are now in the night shift, try adjusting your body to the new timings. Even if you are sleepy, don't sleep till you should and wake up only when you should. Slowly, your body will begin adjusting and shaping to the new timing.

Changed Diet
When in night shift, you may have the habit of hogging on dinner twice into the night. That's not really good for your body. Try having a meal by 8pm and, then have a light, powered with nutrition meal somewhere between 12pm and 6pm. This would be best for your body.

Steady Rotations
Your body can't really get used to rotations that occur every week. Try to get a steady rotation that would last at least a few months before your other shift begins. This way your body has some time to stay and adjust into one rotation cycle! With steady rotations your body has a perfect time for eating, sleeping and performing which will help it remain healthy

Say No to Energy Drinks
Energy drinks, high on caffeine, can help you stay on longer during the night. It helps you with your night shift for sure. But, being high on caffeine, it is not really good for your health. Instead of consuming energy drinks, you can have tea or coffee. The best way to stay awake is having lots of water to drink. Stay hydrated during your night shift.

Don’t Snack
Having a night shift can tempt you to consume a lot of goodies that are complete junk. For example just to stay awake you can start having a bag of chips, fried stuff and other unhealthy foods. You should avoid it during your shift. One your body won't be able to digest it and second it is truly unhealthy. Instead, you can have some fruits or nuts that are healthy and nutritious.

Posture at Work
Most people take this very lightly but your working posture matters for good health. Make sure your eyes stray away from the computer every hour for at least five minutes. Sit upright with a good back rest. If possible go out for a small walk after every hour so that the back and your whole body get some exercise and the muscles are flexed properly. You can even have a cushion to sit on while working as it gives your back a good amount of rest.
