Side Effects Of Water

By Shruti Roy

Measure water
As we always know too much of anything is not good, can you think of one thing that even if consumed a lot doesn't have any side effects? Oh many of you must be thinking of Water right? Then there you are caught! But before telling you why it's not water, I will remind you that right things must be consumed in right amount. So is the consumption of water! 5 to 6 liters of water a day is usually prescribed to adults to keep one's body healthy but one never wants to know the intervals, time and temperature of the water to be consumed. A day or two will be a negligible period of time to realize the water side effects.

Its not Water and Disease, Its Side Effects!

Water health effects and water health problems are not confined to water borne diseases, which happens due to germs in water. Water and diseases have been dealt with long time back. But water side effects is a very gradual process and the three major water side effects you may suffer (with of course conditions applied )are:

Weight Gain

It is usually assumed that weight is gained by eating of oily food and edibles with fat content. People stop having rice living the myth that it would add to their body weight. These are true to a great extent but can be dealt with some effort.

But water side effects adding to weight gain takes some real good time. How does that happen?
The body metabolism is faster and best till sunset, so the water consumed till 6pm according to the Indian Time Standards is best used in and by the body. The water content in our body is 70% naturally and the body tries to maintain the balance. After this time line, the consumption of water must be reduced as the extra amount of water has health effects or rather can give water health problems as the extra water is stored in the body in the cellular form hence adding to the body weight. This water content doesn't even break into the form of energy. It is easier to loose the weight gained by the solid edibles but its not the case with water.

Stressed Kidneys

Kidneys are the filters in our body hence playing a vital role in the metabolism of the body. The uric content in the body is filtered out and along with water is passed out of our body via urination by the kidneys. Thus water consumption is directly associated with the functioning of the kidneys. Its not water and diseases of water that stresses kidneys.

But how does it stress the kidneys then?
As evening dawns, the activities in a person's life decreases. The thirst of the body also gradually decreases. When a body is busy in activities whatever the amount of water is given to it is used up and the function of the kidney becomes easier. But at the time of inaction of the body, the whole pressure to utilize the water in the body which is continuously been in-taken falls on the kidney hence, stressing it.

Poor Digestion

Whenever victimized by indigestion intake of water is commonly advised and it actually helps to a great extent, unless it is related like, water and disease. But water side effects can be a reason to poor digestion many a times and we never realize it. Chewing the food properly and the correct amount of bile juice secreted in the intestine are the two vital things that affect digestion.

What has water to do with this?
Intake of water immediately before having a meal or a heavy breakfast dilutes the intestinal fluid meant for breaking down of food and transporting them to each and every cell of the body. Similarly if one continues to drink water through out having a meal, the teeth does not get the opportunity to do the primary breaking down of the food hence leading to the most common yet painful experience of indigestion.

Avoid Having Such Disorders By

  • Drink 1/2 liter of luke warm water to kick start your day. It retains your body temperature which might have fallen all night.
  • Remaining 5 1/2 liters of water must be taken on or before the slowing down of the internal metabolism of the body, in short on or before sunset. It will save you of the water health effects.
  • Make sure that you drink water only at a gap of half an hour before or after food.

P.S: You can of course drink water anytime to quench your thirst.
