Medicines and alcohol may not have an obvious connection but they could cause obvious consequences if not used carefully. These days we pop pills for everything because we have no time for natural recovery. Taking medicines have become almost second nature for us, so we are not even conscious of being under medication while getting drink ideas. So if you are doing a course of medicines and turn up at a friend's beer party 9 times out of 10 you will be drinking. But did you know that it is not safe to drink alcohol with some kinds of medicines?

Here are some alcohol drinking tips that will tell you which medicines with alcohol must not be taken.

Alcohol Incompatible Medicines:

1. Medicines For Amoebiasis or Worms: With the amount of junk food we eat these days, amoebaiasis is a fairly common condition. Loose motions, diarrhea and stomach ache are the symptoms of this hazard. It is caused due to bacteria called amoeba multiplying in the stomach or worms. The standard medicines for this infection are metronidazole, ofloxacin or norfloxacin, etc. If you are on medicines that have these components then alcohol is a total no-no for you. Alcohol interferes with working of this medicines and as these are antibiotic, you may become immune to them. So don't get any drink ideas during your DE-worming course.

2. Medicines For Colitis: Colitis is a condition when the Colon is infected with bacteria causing severe indigestion. The standard medicinal component used here is mebeverine hcl which cures the muscle spasms of the stomach to give relief from pain. First of all alcohol makes you prone to ingestion so it is not safe drinking alcohol on an infected stomach. Moreover, this particular drug is not at all compatible with alcohol so never mix your drinks with it.

3. Anti-allergics And Alcohol: Some people are allergic to certain groups of things and when exposed to it they have an allergic reaction be it inflammation, rashes or suffocation; to counter this you need anti allergics. The usual components of anti allergics are cetirizine, pheniramine maleate, etc. Any medicine with these components is not safe while drinking alcohol. If you have been sneezing or have a cold allergy then do not consume alcohol because it is highly probable that your medication has these compounds in it.

4. Tranquilizers: If you have been prescribed tranquilizers then it is probably to counter your drinking habit! We are not talking about minor sedatives but hard core nerve relaxing medications. These kind of medicines commonly have soothing drugs like benzodiazepine. Alcohol with medicines like this is like poison. It defeats the purpose of taking them.
