Can Calcium Deficiency Increase The Risk Of Heart Attack?
This is why you must up your calcium intake!
Remember when you were younger and your parents asked you to drink a big glass of milk at least once a day?
Well, most of us would have been fussy about it consuming healthy things like milk, fruits, vegetables, etc., as kids.
Back then, we wouldn't have known the importance of healthy foods and how they can affect us, so we would go by the taste of the things we consume and yearn for junk food!
The fact is that even though we are grown up now and know a lot of about balanced diet and taking care of our health, we still neglect our health and indulge in diet habits which are harmful for us.
For example, we know that junk food and eating out often can be unhealthy for us and yet, many of us find it hard to exercise self-control and eat unhealthy foods on a regular basis.
We know that as humans, we cannot escape from diseases and ailments even when we have made an effort to follow a healthy lifestyle, so imagine how bad it can get when we do not follow a healthy lifestyle!
Now, we know that a balanced diet, regular exercise, avoiding stress and pollution, etc., are some of the most important requirements of being healthy.
A balanced diet consists of nutrients like vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, protein, fats, etc. Also, minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc., are also very important for the human body to function well.
When even one of the above nutrients is not consumed enough, it can lead to nutritional deficiencies.
A recent research study has found that calcium deficiency can up the risk of heart attack. Find out how, in this article.
Link Between Calcium Deficiency & Heart Attack
Now, we previously learnt that minerals like calcium are very important if we want to keep up our health and avoid diseases.
Calcium is one of the main minerals required for the health of our bones and teeth. Without enough calcium, a person can up the risk of bone diseases and teeth problems.
When there isn't enough calcium being consumed by a person through his/her diet, it can lead to calcium deficiency, which is also known as hypocalcemia.
Hypocalcemia can also cause memory issues by affecting the brain cells, depression, muscle cramps, osteoporosis (bone diseases), joint pain, weak and brittle nails, etc.
Now, the above symptoms of calcium deficiency are quite common; however, calcium deficiency is now linked to heart problems by a research study.
A recent research study conducted by Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, said that they noticed significantly low levels of calcium in most individuals who experienced sudden cardiac arrests with no previous incidents of heart ailments.
It is noted that when calcium levels are low in the body, the walls of the heart could become weaker, leading to unexpected cardiac arrests in people, especially people above the age of 50.
So, in conclusion, calcium deficiency can lead to cardiac arrests and it is very important to add calcium-rich foods like milk, spinach, curd, etc., to your diet on a regular basis.
