Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Admitted to Hospital After Sudden Health Scare
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was admitted to a private hospital in Thane on Friday, July 3, after his health suddenly deteriorated. Shiv Sena sources say his condition is now stable and there is no cause for serious concern, though he remains under observation.
What Happened
Shinde developed a high fever and complained of severe weakness on Friday while the state legislature session was underway. Despite the fever, he reportedly continued working before his condition worsened to the point that immediate hospitalisation became necessary. He is currently being treated by a team of specialist doctors at the private facility in Thane.
Party sources attribute the health scare to extreme physical exertion and an unusually demanding work schedule over the past several days, rather than to any serious underlying illness.

A Packed Political Schedule
Shinde's exhaustion comes on the heels of intense political activity centred on "Operation Tiger," an effort that recently brought six MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, along with Mumbai MLC Sachin Ahir, over to Shinde's party. Coordinating these defections reportedly involved frequent trips to New Delhi and long working hours, which party insiders say took a toll on his health.
Impact on Scheduled Events
Shinde's hospitalisation disrupted a key party event: the formal induction of Shubhangi Patil, a Dhule-based leader from the Thackeray faction, into the Shinde-led Shiv Sena. The ceremony, originally planned for 4 p.m. Friday at Gangubai Shinde Hall in Thane, had to be postponed.
The induction eventually went ahead late that night, wrapping up around 1:15 a.m. Saturday. In Shinde's absence, his son and Member of Parliament, Dr Shrikant Shinde, presided over the event alongside senior party office-bearers. Patil, who had previously contested the Nashik Graduates Constituency seat as a Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate and secured close to 50,000 votes, was formally welcomed into the party in the early hours of the morning.

Current Status
As of Saturday, Shinde remains hospitalised for treatment and observation. Party sources have reiterated that his condition is stable and that the episode is being attributed to fatigue rather than a serious medical issue. No official statement on a discharge timeline has been released so far.
