How To Get Rid Of Ammonia Smell From Urine
If your urine smells like ammonia, try these remedies. If it is due to a minor issue, using home remedies will cure the problem of smelly urine.
Urine is predominantly water. But when it is predominantly waste material and chemicals, it tends to appear dark in colour and also smell like ammonium.
Though there are many reasons like diabetes, urinary tract infection and kidney stones behind smelly urine, it could also be due to minor reasons like dehydration.
If it is due to a minor issue, using home remedies will cure the problem of smelly urine. Here are some simple remedies to follow if your urine smells like ammonia.
Hydrate Well And See!
If the colour of the urine is dark and it smells like ammonia, check for other signs of dehydration.
Drink lots of water and the problem will be solved if it is dehydration. Both the smell and the colour of the urine will be changed within a day or two.
Baking Soda And Water
Another good remedy is baking soda. Add a teaspoon of baking soda to a full glass of water and drink it. Some studies claim that it can prevent kidney stones, reduce uric acid and also eliminate the smell of ammonia from the urine.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar
Take a glass of water and mix apple cider vinegar in it and drink it. Repeat it thrice for two days and see if the smell of the urine goes away. Apple cider vinegar is actually used as a remedy to prevent urinary tract infections.
Caution
Baking soda contains sodium. So, don't go for this remedy if you have health conditions like high BP, heart issues, swollen legs or other conditions that require you to avoid sodium.
Medical Help
If the smell of ammonia doesn't go away even after trying the above remedies for two days, rush to the doctor. Go for a urine test as your urine can reflect your health condition.
Don't Ignore
If you have fever, thirsty sensation, vomiting and pain near your sides or back along with smelly urine, discuss the same with your doctor as it could also be due to urinary infection.
