8 Effective Home Remedies For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
There are several treatment methods for carpal tunnel syndrome, but of all of these, home remedies are found to be effective. Read here to know more.
If you have been witnessing a mild tingling sensation, numbness or a crippling pain around your wrists that goes till your forearms and the fingers, then it is better to get it checked immediately. This could be a symptom of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).
When the pain gets severe and it tends to affect your day-to-day activities as well as work then all that one wants at that point of time is to get rid of it immediately. There are certain home remedies that are effective in treating the symptoms of CTS.

So what exactly causes CTS? When the nerve that connects the palm to the forearms that lies just at the base of the wrist also known as the carpal tunnel gets inflamed, it causes pain and numbness.
This generally happens when there is excess pressure on the carpal tunnel. The most common cause for it is prolonged working on the computer that includes typing and repetitive use of the wrists. Expert doctors also have asserted that the number of CTS cases are on the rise for the past couple of years.

Added to this, certain nutritional deficiencies in the body also give rise to CTS. Meanwhile, certain medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and kidney failure could lead to this condition.
Here is a list of a few home remedies for CTS. Take a look.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Just take a few drops of unfiltered apple cider vinegar, mix it along with olive oil and then massage it over the affected area once in a day for about five minutes.
2. Vitamin B6:
Inflammation in the wrists or CTS can also be caused due to lack of vitamin B6 in the body. Increasing the intake of green leafy vegetables, beans and fruits that are rich in vitamin B6 will help in addressing the symptoms.
3. Flaxseeds:
Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, known for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, flaxseed helps in reducing the pain and swelling caused due to CTS.
4. Cold Compress:
If you are looking for a quick relief, then cold compress would be extremely helpful. Take a few ice cubes, wrap it in a clean towel and apply it over the affected area. Leave it for about 10 minutes. Do this at regular intervals. It helps reduce the pain and swelling.
5. Coconut Oil:
Take some coconut oil, mix it along with a few drops of olive oil and then apply it on the affected wrist and gently massage it for about 10 minutes. Do this about twice a day; it helps in alleviating the pain and inflammation. Continue this till the symptom subsides.
6. Castor Oil:
Take a bit of castor oil, warm it and then apply it on the affected area. Massage it for a few minutes and then apply a warm flannel wrap around it and keep it for sometime once in a day. This helps to reduce the inflammation.
7. Turmeric:
Turmeric is one of the well known home ingredients that is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric can be included in your daily diet or one could consume it as a supplement along with water or milk twice a day.
8. Stretching Exercises:
Slight exercises of the wrist, like making a fist and then releasing it along with shaking of the fingers for about 10-15 times helps in increasing the blood circulation and thus reduces the pain and inflammation.
