9 Foods To Avoid When Your Triglyceride Is High
Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the body, which are used for energy purposes.
People with high levels of triglyceride are more likely to suffer from heart disease, stroke, etc.
When it comes to its level of impact on a person's health, it is considered equivalent to high cholesterol.
Other than your heart, high triglyceride can also have adverse effects on other vital organs like kidney and liver.
The main known causes of high level of triglyceride are obesity, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, etc.
As high triglyceride can lead to severe health problems, this condition should not be taken lightly.
In most cases, a doctor will prescribe a few medicines that can lower the level of triglyceride and also recommend a change in diet and lifestyle.
It shouldn't come as a surprise, but the kind of food you put in your system can have a direct impact on the level of triglyceride in your body. And keeping it under check is critical for a person's health and well-being.
So, read on to find out more about the foods that you should avoid or stop eating if your triglyceride level is high.

1. Sugary Drinks:
Sugary drinks like iced tea, soda, fruit juice, etc, can overload your system with excess sugar. Avoid drinking these drinks to be able to keep your triglyceride level in check.

2. Starchy Food:
Starchy foods like potato, pasta, etc, are a great source of energy in our body. These healthy foods get broken down into sugar, as they reach the digestive system. Too much of this can lead to an excess of sugar in the system and eventually to a higher triglyceride level. It is crucial to downsize the amount of starchy food you put in your system for this to be under control.

3. Coconut:
The health benefits of coconut are known worldwide. But, coconut also happens to be rich in saturated fat. You don't have to stay away from coconut forever, but just limit the consumption till the triglyceride level is in control.

4. Honey Or Maple Syrup:
It goes without saying that food items like honey or maple syrup have a high level of sugar in them. Thus, if your triglyceride is high, you should definitely consider taking a break or at least cutting down on the dosage of these items.

5. Saturated Fat:
Butter, high-fat dairy products, red meat, etc, are packed with saturated fats that can significantly elevate the level of triglyceride in the body. Avoiding these foods will do good to your cholesterol level.

6. Alcohol:
High triglyceride is yet another reason to stay away from alcohol. Just a few drinks of any type of an alcohol can drastically increase the triglyceride level of an individual.

7. Starchy Vegetables:
Food items like corn and peas contain saturated fats in them and are replete with starch. Presence of excess starch in the body is one of the key contributing factors in raising the triglyceride level.

8. Baked Goods:
High triglyceride can be considerably brought down by avoiding food items that are baked, as they contain a high amount of saturated fats in them, which can raise the level of triglycerides in the body.

9. High-fat Meat:
There are meat items that are good and there are few, which aren't, specially the ones that have a high content of fat in them. If you've found out that your triglyceride level is high, then you should stay away from high-fat meat food substances like sausages, bacon, etc.
