Does Diabetes Cause Heart Diseases?
The effect of diabetes can be seen on all your body parts. Diabetes affects your eye sight and kidneys in a major way. A high level of blood sugar also stops your wounds from healing and make surgeries difficult. Basically diabetes affects your entire system and makes your body degenerate slowly. Doctors have also linked diabetes with heart diseases now.
Earlier, the connection between diabetes and heart diseases was not clear. But now there is a conclusive evidence that high levels of blood sugar has serious impact on your cardiovascular health as well. The American Heart Association has concluded that diabetics are 2 to 4 times more likely to develop heart related health problems.

Here are some of the reasons for which people with diabetes are also at risk for heart disease.
Obesity: One of the major effects of diabetes is on your weight. Diabetics have a problem with fat metabolism and often find it difficult to manage their weight. This makes them become obese. The increase in body weight puts added pressure on the heart.
High Levels Of Cholesterol: Insulin resistance is often associated with improper metabolism of lipids. This results in unhealthy levels of cholesterol among diabetic. The level of triglycerides (unhealthy cholesterol) that causes heart blockages is particularly high among diabetics. Heart attacks are mostly caused due to arterial blockages. Thus, diabetes and heart attacks go hand in hand.
Fatigue: Diabetes makes you feel fatigued even without doing in physical activity. Diabetics may find it difficult to lead an active life because they feel tired all the time. And physical inactivity is one of the major sources of heart attack.
High Blood Pressure: Insulin resistance which is cause of diabetes has a strong relation with abnormally high blood pressure. Diabetics tend to have higher than normal blood pressure and this puts them in high risk of heart attack.
Heredity: Diabetes is very often a genetic disorder; it runs in families. Heart disease are related to improper fat metabolism and that too runs in the family. So, both diabetes and heart diseases are hereditary to a great extent. The sad part is that if you inherit one, you have a high chance of inheriting the other disease as well!
These are some of the major reasons for relating diabetes with heart diseases. There are several other ill effects of diabetes and thus the only thing you can do is, have a healthy lifestyle.
