Two types of animal Insulin are available, one is bovine and the other is porcine. They have slight structural difference with human Insulin. So far the efficacy is concerned, there is little difference. Allergy to human Insulin is very rare but can happen with animal Insulin.
The main reason for using animal Insulin was the cost, now that the cost of human Insulin has dropped, we rarely use animal Insulin.
