Are you really hungry, or is that craving something to do with your soul? There are times when addiction comes to play rather than hunger. There is a thin line of demarcation between food addiction and actual hunger. Many times you tend to eat even when you are not hungry, thanks to the craving for food, and end up gaining a few pounds.
There’s another theory to overeating and that is called emotional eating. You are facing depression, and you tend to overeat to fight that emotion. The whole thing of emotional eating is a monster that you need to fight. You need to understand what is that emotion that is making you crave for food?

What are the signs of food addiction? Well, if you have been constantly eating more than you had planned to eat, or you kept eating even when you were not hungry, then you are definitely facing food addiction. Sometimes, you tend to eat till you get sick. Do you ever go out of your way to find some food items when it is not available? You are definitely fighting food addiction.

Stay Aware
You should be aware of what you are eating. There are times you just tend to eat things that you are not even aware when to stop eating. You just keep eating, as if it were an automatic activity that’s bound to you. You need to grow aware of when and why you are eating so much. It is good to maintain a journal when you have decided to be aware of your eating habits. Make sure you note down all your eating habits which include what time you eat, where you eat, what are you eating and notice the patterns of your eating habits.
Replace your Meal
Once you have removed the stress eating habits off your plate, you will need to replace them with other healthy eating habits. You can get a one minute fix in your healthy eating habits. have a cup of black tea which will lower the cortisol levels in your body, the hormone responsible for craving. A foot massage instead of eating something that is unhealthy could also cure your increasing stress levels. Quick breathing exercises, 5 minute meditation etc. are good habits that can replace the mindless eating habit which arises out of high stress levels and commotion.
Stress Relieving Techniques
When do you eat the most? At a time when you are facing high levels of tension and stress! There are quick ways to relieve your tension and calm yourself down. These techniques are better than binge eating. You can try meditation which is a proven relaxing technique. Another way is use of self massage which will relax your mind and relieve the stress levels. You need to pamper your senses to relieve the stress. Practice is all it takes to relieve your stress.
Cognitive Mode of Control
When you self talk yourself into something, you eventually distract yourself. This is how you can control the hunger pangs too. Discipline and self talk are the best ways to control the binge eating. Discipline will also remind you about the goals regarding control on eating.
