Penelope Cruz Steps Onto The TIFF Red Carpet In A Statement High Jewellery Look
Penelope Cruz made a striking appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, wearing high jewellery by ZOYA, the luxury jewellery atelier from the Tata Group. For the red carpet, the Academy Award winner paired her look with a vibrant necklace, statement ring and sculptural bangle, bringing a distinctly Indian interpretation of colour and craftsmanship to an international fashion setting.
The jewellery pieces offered plenty to look at, from a 19-carat golden heliodor necklace accented with colourful sapphires to a dramatic 13-carat amethyst ring. Together, the jewels showcased ZOYA's approach to combining natural gemstones with sculptural forms and intricate craftsmanship.
The Rekindle Necklace Takes Centre Stage
The standout piece was ZOYA's Rekindle Necklace, an eternity-inspired design centred around 19 carats of golden heliodor. The gemstone's warm yellow hue gives the necklace its dominant colour, while yellow and pink sapphires add contrast around the central stones.
The necklace features fluid sculptural forms arranged in a lattice-like structure. Its open-back construction allows light to pass through the heliodors, highlighting the depth and brilliance of the gemstones.
The design takes visual inspiration from turmeric and the rich colours associated with India's spice traditions. According to ZOYA, more than 1,200 hours of craftsmanship went into creating the intricate necklace.
Penelope Cruz's Amethyst Ring Adds A Dramatic Touch
Penelope Cruz's ring brought a different colour story to the ensemble. The Wildflower Heart Ring features a 13-carat amethyst in ZOYA's proprietary Bloom CutTM, which uses spiralling facets to create a flower-like appearance.
The vivid purple centre is surrounded by pink sapphires and diamonds, forming a colourful halo around the main gemstone. ZOYA says the cut was developed through nearly a year of experimentation and precision cutting.
The result is a statement ring where the amethyst remains the focal point, while the surrounding gemstones add movement and contrast.
The Iconic Lattice Bangle Completes The Jewellery Look
Cruz also wore ZOYA's Iconic Lattice Bangle, which takes a more structured approach to high jewellery. The design is built around a gold lattice illuminated with brilliant-cut diamonds, with emerald-cut tanzanites placed at its chamfered ends.
The combination of gold, diamonds and blue-violet tanzanites creates a cooler counterpoint to the warm tones of the heliodor necklace and purple amethyst ring.
ZOYA's Take On Indian-Inspired High Jewellery
The three pieces reflect a recurring element in ZOYA's jewellery: using colour and gemstones to reinterpret Indian cultural references through contemporary forms. The upcoming collection draws inspiration from spices, memories and rituals, translating these ideas into jewellery through natural gemstones and sculptural designs.
For Cruz's TIFF appearance, that aesthetic was expressed through three distinctly different pieces rather than a single matching jewellery set.
Amanpreet Ahluwalia, Business Head, ZOYA, said:
"We believe the future of luxury will be defined by originality, by Houses that have the courage to develop a language entirely their own. TIFF is a beautiful expression of that belief for ZOYA. We have always wanted to create meaningful jewellery rooted in our own cultural stories, with a distinctive language of colour, design and craft, while speaking to the woman of today. Seeing Penelope Cruz wear ZOYA on this global stage feels like an affirmation of that creative conviction. It is a moment where our language meets the world, not simply to be seen, but to add something distinctive to the conversation."
A Colourful Red-Carpet Moment
With golden heliodor, vivid amethyst, pink and yellow sapphires, diamonds and tanzanites, Cruz's TIFF jewellery look was built around colour rather than conventional diamond-heavy glamour. The combination gave the red-carpet appearance a strong gemstone focus while placing Indian-inspired craftsmanship at the centre of the styling.
