The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives: Of 'Le Bal' Talks And Shanaya Kapoor’s Red Gown

The Netflix show, The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives received its fair share of criticism but it also highlighted the voyeuristic and guilt-watching side of the viewers. The show was cringe-worthy, to be honest, and the cringe began with Maheep Kapoor stressing about Shanaya Kapoor's Le Bal Des Débutantes Paris 2019 or just Le Bal. Le Bal was apparently the 'big deal' as the first two episodes showed it is as the prestigious ball, where apparently young ladies from, mind you, only the privileged class are introduced into the higher society. Coughing at the classist attitude! But Le Ball, organised annually by Ophélie Renouard, is the charity event, where you do Ball dance, not belly dance (as explained in the show with a level of tone-deafness) with your father first and then cavaliers, usually chosen by the organisers. After we learnt the correct pronunciation of Le Bal because pronunciation matters, we got to see what gown Shanaya Kapoor opted for the ball.

Shanaya Kapoor selected a red gown and her mother, Maheep Kapoor, who is prepping up her, for the press conference, asked her what will you say when someone asks why did you choose the red colour? Well, that made her think and Shanaya candidly replied, 'Because it is like everyone will only see me. It is like a loud colour." We thought the answer was absolutely honest but according to Maheep, Sanjay Kapoor's wife, "Are you serious! You can't say red is a loud colour, you will sound stupid." But finally, when Shanaya Kapoor made a graceful entry at the Le Bal, she is seen in a red gown - a bright and loud colour, which we loved. And seriously, how Le Bal was shown in the show, it seemed like a fun non-judgmental event. It is tougher when your parents put you on the spot and ask you to sing a song at a family gathering. But anyway, let's talk about Shanaya Kapoor's gown, which she wore.

So, for the Le Bal in Paris, Shanaya Kapoor wore a gown that was designed by Lecoanet Hemant. It was a gorgeous gown with layers of ruffles and textured details. Shanaya Kapoor was a vision in her gown, which wasn't really about embellishments - so not too loud apparently! The assistant director in the film, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Shanaya wore minimal yet exquisite jewellery, which offered a fine balance to her look. The side-swept hairdo completed her look and the makeup was meticulously done. Shanaya Kapoor inspired us to wear red and with The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, we wanted to revisit the fashion moment.
